500-1 Favorite in Tonight’s Race To #1 Pick

Jordan Zimmerman (6-5, 3.03) is wondering who he is pitching against.  The answer is Yohan Flande (0-2, 7.36). Zimmerman deadpanned, “Oh, did he get called up from the Little League World Series?”  Translation:  the Nats are looking forward to frolicking around at Coors Playground tonight as the 500-1 favorites.

The only beacon of light in the team is Ben Paulsen who made his debut last night without the frustration that everyone else are exhibiting.  Paulsen was the only guy who didn’t swing for the fences and hit what the pitcher gave him.  It was observed that most other Rockie players threw the bat and/or helmet in frustration while running to first base.  The veterans need to observe Paulsen’s baseball conduct on the field.

By the way, don’t expect to see a post game report tonight as I will be at the game tonight and expecting to lose 23-1, nothing to write home about.  The only “news” is that there are rumors going around that Walt Weiss and Bill Geivett aren’t seeing eye to eye which only increases the pressure on Dick Montfort to do something somewhere in the front office.

Tulo not listed in either starting lineup nor on the list of bench players.  Waiting for update – likely Tulo going on DL and who is coming up?

Tulo to DL. Boy did we blow it not trading him a few weeks ago.

Also – we’re a very, very solid 2 to 1 in the race for next year’s #1 pick.

So, Tulo quits for the season, too. Earliest ever I think. The checkout is complete

In the past the Rockies have played better ball with Tulo out…..time will tell if this can happen again.

I realize this is the bash Tulo site whenever he gets hurt but in case you haven’t noticed since Tulo got hurt they haven’t won. Of course they didn’t win much with him. I believe 2012 the Rockies lost 98 games and that was the season that Tulo missed the most games. But I’ve seen this trend on other sites. Don’t complain about the lousy players blame the best players whenever they get hurt, make an out or heaven forbid… Read more »

For the record – I’m not bashing Tulo (not even close). I AM bashing Rox management.

RMH, thanks for noting Ben Paulsen’s nice debut. He’s been waiting in the wings a long time and I hope he grabs on. Another hit tonight, so far.

So is the HR Derby jinx real? Both our participants on the DL…just saying.

Tulo creates great numbers for himself, plays stellar defense, but takes himself out of the winning equation too often, whether it’s the GIDP, the towering pop-up when a sacrifice is needed, or the nagging and too-frequent leg injuries. The team is absolutely diminished without him but you have to question whether the contribution equals the phenomenal sums of money he gets paid. Note that ALL of the big-money guys are “checked-out” going into the second half. It would be nice… Read more »

Damn … Rangers lose in 14 to the Yankees. Best we can do is remain tied for worst record in baseball.

One more thing. The Rockies TV commercials this year are terrible and now wholly ridiculous in tenor, tone and tale–this team doesn’t “flat out rake” any longer and hasn’t for about two months.

Of course, hard to do a campaign about a team going 4-25….

I didn’t watch the game, but it seems that Flande does well early, and then gets into trouble. Could he be a major league reliever?

I said that after he flambed after 4 innings last time.He has decent stuff just not enough of it.I think he has got guts and good control and should join Nacascio as candidates for next years pen after we purge the killing us B’s.I actually have watched his starts and like what I’ve seen-just can’t fool them for more than five.

Another typical loss, 4-25 in last 29 games is almost beyond comprehension and would be comical if not for our vested interest in this team. I didn’t watch most of this, so I can’t speak on any buffoon plays, but I can note: – First inning: Runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out and they don’t score – Second Inning: Runner on 3rd with 1 out and he doesn’t score – Third inning: Runner on 3rd with 1 out… Read more »

Cargo set the tone in those first 2 innings by not even putting the ball in play either time-2 K’s.Move him to leadoff or 2 hole where he has gotten his mojo back before.Try Blackmon or the new kid at first at clean up.It can’t really matter much as currently we’re averaging fewer than 3 runs per game.

Flande actually did well, however Bettis came in and did in his winning game though it was not the end of the scoring for the Nats and the ensuing pitchers continued the problem. I agree that the announcers are trying to positive or finding someone to interview and then they don’t have to talk about the game at all:-) As any kind of professional making any kind of money you certainly have trouble going to work when the light at… Read more »

We should simply eliminate any reliever whose last name starts with a B.And maybe first names-aka Boone the 16 million dollar ghost. What a useless pick up.

Tulo: “So I have to be healthy before I come back. So I’m not going to rush this thing, especially with where we’re at, there’s no need to rush. I need to be 100 percent.” What does that mean — “especially with where we’re at, there’s no need to rush.” RocketMan’s “quitting on the season” maybe isn’t so crazy after all. Given “where we’re at,” you could just as easily say he should try to play through it. It’s not… Read more »

Ag, I’m not aware of any rule that does not allow a player to be traded while on the DL.

Sorry Bill but I know what I’ve heard from Tulo over the last week has me scratching my head. OK, I get it. He doesn’t want to be the next Todd Helton. I don’t have a problem with that but I wouldn’t have said it to the press. I think Ag covered the latest stuff pretty well.

Players on the DL can be traded. But realistically – an “in-season” trade for Tulo would need to net the team an all-star SS for a 6 week playoff run and the playoffs as well. So his trade value is caput if he can’t play. It seems to me Tulo has at least some limited no-trade clause in his contract (can anyone verify?). So I can’t hazard a guess as to who the “no trade” teams might be. I did… Read more »

Yep. The only time the DL and trading has an issue is the end of August and post season eligibility as far as I know. I’m guessing Ag may have read comments from the DP that may have been poorly worded. I didn’t think Tulo has even a limited no trade. Are you thinking because of this? “Tulowitzki is signed through 2020 and owed, after this season, a minimum of $118 million. As well, if Tulowitzki is traded while under… Read more »

Agbayani quoted from the same article I saw before my Tulo “quits” post, and perfectly captures my sentiments. All of the O’s (Cargo, Rosario and Arenado) were rushed back from the DL with minimal rehab work. I think Cargo is simply super frustrated with his performance and is trying to make up for it every AB. He’s his own worst enemy at this point and it doesn’t seem anyone (hmm Walt???) can get him to see that. Rosario is well,… Read more »
