“It’s been obvious to all of us that have followed the team all season that the 5th spot in the rotation has been a black hole, but has that been the main reason for the dismal season? Hasn’t the inconsistent offense been the biggest culprit?”
Jose Fernandez (10-5, 2.30) made a soothsayer out of the Cisco Kid, delivering 7 shut-out innings Saturday night, turning them over to AJ Ramos and Steve Cishek for a 3-0 Miami Marlins victory over the Colorado Rockies Saturday night at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida. Fernandez allowed 4 hits and struck-out 8 Rockies. Ramos and Cishek each struck-out one for a total of 10 Rockie Ks. But there’s one thing we DO know: “They Will Hit.”
Jeff Manship (0-4, 6.86) turned-in a credible performance, surrendering 4 hits and 2 walks in 6-complete. Two 4th inning hits and a sacrifice fly did him in with the Colorado bats engaging in a South Beach nap. Giancarlo Stanton doubled to left leading-off and moved to 3rd on a Logan Morrison ground-out. Ed Lucas singled him in, then scored on a triple by Adeiny Hechavarria. Jake Marisnick lifted a fly ball to Big Money Michael Cuddyer to drive-in Hechavarria, capping the night’s scoring at 3.
Rob Scahill finished-up for Manship, holding Miami scoreless in the 7th and 8th, despite throwing 34 pitches in the 7th.
There’s still a chance for a series win with a rubber match set for 11:10 am MDT. Left-hander Jorge De La Rosa goes up against the Marlins’ Jacob Turner.

We’ll have to see how he hits in the long run, but I thought he did a good job defensively and certainly is the size you want for a first baseman. Who knows though as they may decide to move Rosario there, who is not too bad, but isn’t really a first baseman… Read more »
Over at Hardball Talk, they have an epic .gif of Tulo lining out to Fernandez. It’s hard not to like that kid.
