Arm Help Added to Roster

September expanded rosters are a lot more fun when your team is in the thick of it, instead of just being in a pile of…well, you know.  But it is also a chance to see what someone can do or give another player needed rest.

The Rockies called up right-handed pitchers: Mitchell BoggsManuel Corpas and Collin McHugh.  They also brought up Ryan Wheeler for some infield relief.

Boggs pitched for the Rockies a couple of times after getting picked up from the Cardinals, but has spent most of his time with the team in Triple-A.

Corpas should be known to all long-time Rockies fans.  Many celebrated his exit and few lauded his return.  Corpas came into last nights game in a double switch with Gonzalez.  He proceeded to give up a double and then he struck out Uribe, so there’s that.  Corpas has been called up a few times this season and is sitting on a 4.50 ERA after 32 1/3 innings pitched.

McHugh made a failed start with the team in July, was sent down, and is bring brought back to work out of the pen.

Wheeler can play first or third and was hitting .306 with the Sky Sox, with 12 HR’s and 89 RBI’s.

It would be nice if there were some modifications. Set a 25 man roster before game. Remember 4 starters would not be listed as it is not their turn. Not saying this is only option, but modifying the rule might be better than elimination.

Tyler Colvin passed through waivers and was outrighted off the 40 man roster. He has accepted a minor league assignment. He has been injured and missed the end of July and all of August.

Colvin: interesting how a guy could go from a very productive outfielder last year to someone nobody even wants to take a flyer on. I guess the last 6 weeks or so he was injured, but before that he was just plain crappy. And the DP today says Cargo is essentially shut down for the rest of the season, hanging out with the club as a late-innings defensive replacement only thanks to expanded rosters. Not sure what’s up with Pomeranz,… Read more »
