Bettis to Drillers, 7-Day DL

One of the Rockies top pitching prospects, Chad Bettis, has been assigned to the Rockies AA team (Tulsa Drillers) as had been expected, however it has also been reported by the Tulsa press that he has been placed on the 7-Day Disabled List with shoulder inflammation.

Bettis had a standout season at high A Modesto in 2011 and was scheduled to be one of the top starters along with lefty Edwar Cabrera when the Drillers begin their AA minor league season later this week.

Not a doctor, however shoulder inflammation usually means some extended down time before building arm strength back up again. The Rockies have plenty of starting pitching depth, so as pure speculation I would not expect to see Bettis outside of Extended Spring Training in Arizona until late May or June at the soonest.

Pitching injuries are part of the game, but this one hurts the Rockies more than most! If anyone has more specific information regarding Chad Bettis and his condition, please repost it here.
