Bettis vs. Braves 07/12/2015

Chad Bettis has a real test today; how will he respond to a 10 ER, 2.1 IP, 4 HRs outing last Tuesday vs. the Angels?  He needs to show that he can push the erase button and get back on the mound today.  Walt Weiss is putting the best lineup out there today on a Sunday.  Atlanta will once again send lefty Alex Wood today after he threw just two pitches Thursday in his previous start before two hour rain delay knocked him out.  Thus the reason right handed hitters Baby Bull and Drew Stubbs got the starts today.  Chuck Nazty and CarGo are the only LH bats in the lineup today.

Kyle Kendrick and Yohan Flande should be available as the long relievers today if Bettis craters again today.  It will be a rare four game win streak if Colorado Rockies win today.  Yesterday they made a roster transaction – DFA’ed Aaron Laffey who picked up the ‘W despite being the worst pitcher on Friday and recalled Rex Brothers who faced just three batters (ground out on a 3-2 count and two BBs) yesterday.  Why WW put Brothers in a 2-2 game yesterday, we will never know.

Looking to the future, two Rockies prospects will be playing in the Futures All Star Game today at 1:00 MDT.  It will be televised on MLBN.  I participated in Purp 30 poll which closed last week.  Trevor Story, recently promoted to AAA, and Raimel Tapia of Modesto (A+) will be participating in the Futures ASG.  The official results has not been released yet by Purple Row.  From what I can see from reading the comment thread (where the individual polls were posted) Tapia and Story were in the top ten.  Unsurprisingly, Brennan Rodgers was ranked #3 in just about all polls behind David Dahl and Jon Gray.  I went a little high at #4 for Mike Nikorak although most pollsters put him between #5 and #10.  Ryan McMahon will easily be in the top six or seven in the final poll.  Albuquerque has a game tonight which is supposedly Jon Gray’s start, but the SP is still TBD.  With the DFA of Laffey, there is an open spot on the 40-man roster.  Jon Gray after the ASB?

A little excitement is happening in the organization over on the East Coast, where it became official that the New Britain Rock Cats will move to Hartford and become the Yard Goats.  The logo and colors has been released.  I personally love the Yard Goats logo and colors.  It appears that the Yard Goat New Era caps is a hot item and it has been flying off the shelves and the online store.

Well played series for the Rocks. From Thursday nights early spring like conditions to today’s perfect mid summer day, everybody did their jobs. Rest for everyone but the All Stars. Would be something if the trio actually got to play an inning together.

Just what the doctor ordered: a sweep of the Braves, capped by a blowout, followed by the All Star break.

Being from the South and therefore suffering Braves overload for years – nothing makes me happier than seeing the Rox give them a beat down.

Tulo looking better and better. Cargo showing signs of life. Axford going well. Mr. Bridich has some opportunities. The next 3 weeks will show us what kind of GM we have.

Sounds as though they may finally pull the trigger and bring him up. First three games after the break are in SD. You could do worse than debut there. Then he would miss the Rangers at home and get the light hitting Reds the following weekend. Not a bad setup.

Gray let up a bunch of runs and wasn’t effective. I’m not sure the short outing had to do with bringing him up.
