Blackmon in, Tulo out Against Snakes

Baseball’s worst kept secret: Charlie Blackmon will be in the lineup today after going 6-6 with three doubles and an HR (first time in MLB history). Second worst kept secret? De La Rosa ain’t diggin’ him some Baby Bull lately. So, it comes as no surprise that Pacheco will be sent out on dish duty for today’s second of three against the DBacks.

Speaking of dishes, it looks like Fine China will be on the shelf as Charlie Culberson gets time at short today. Weiss insists that it is a “scheduled” day off for Tulo, but believing that might take some faith.

Another surprise is having DJ hit second in the lineup. Cuddyer was asked by Weiss what spot he wanted to hit in the lineup every day, and he asked to hit second. Maybe the one caveat is that Tulo must hit fourth. If not, then aparently all bets are off.

Oh good grief. Scheduled day off, six games in? I hope that’s the truth. (FC’s being treated like he is just that. Better safe than sorry?)

Yikes, Culberson at SS? I wonder what they have against moving DJ to SS when Tulo is out. Culberson has a second baseman’s arm, DJ a shortstop’s arm, Culberson has looked really bad at SS, DJ looked perfectly comfortable at SS the few times we’ve seen him there … but what do I know?

In the ST game I saw, Culberson REALLY struggled throwing (he was playing 3rd that day). Cuddyer was playing first that day – I felt bad for him.

Couple of writers on Fan Graphs have been tracking pitcher velocities for some time…..and it’s become my favorite read on that site. Great injury predictor. Anyway, the list of decliners is far longer than the “gainer” list. That being said, biggest gainer first time through SP this season was Brandon McCarthy. Historical FB velocity average of about 91. But was 93 in first start. He’ll be toughest of the 3 Snake SP we see. Also…..the way the schedule falls out,… Read more »
