Blackout scenario for Saturday?

Hey all, just when I thought I understood the Fox Saturday national blackout rules….I have a question.

So on Saturday Rox/Astros is listed as one of the national games on Fox national.  Living in Phoenix, I’m not optimistic that the Rox game is the one we’ll get.  Soooo….because EVERYTHING is (or was last year) blacked out (MLB.TV, extra innings, etc) while the Fox national game is on, I’m assuming there’s no way for me to see this game?  I have the MLB.TV premium package so I can watch on computer/apple TV.  Bummer too because I wanted to see Moyer pitch that day.

Am I correct?
Thanks!

TJ, the game is listed on the Rockies’ website at 5:05 PM on Root Sports. You didn’t say whether you have Extra Innings, but if you have Directv they are offering a free preview of that package until the 15th. Not sure where you saw the Fox game listing, but it appears incorrect (and their Sat. games are almost always earlier in the day, so that would rule this one out). Your understanding IS correct. They dictate the ONE game… Read more »

I’m not a big fan of the Blackout Rules on Saturdays because it is so arbitrary as to which game Fox will broadcast…i remember a couple of years ago they started with a Rockies game (st. louis i belive) but because we were killing them (like 11 – 3 or something) they switched the feed to a different game! So, i’m not sure what to tell you…i also have the MLBtv package and know that if a game is blacked… Read more »

not sure where you live TJ but my favorite hangout when I am in Phoenix and want to watch anything Denver related is Bleachers Bar and Grill located over at 40th and Chandler Blvd.

Owner is a Boston fanatic who has MLB package and they always find the games I want to watch and put it on. Oh..they serve cold beer too plus food is good!

This blackout policy is really stupid. I purchased mlb.tv this year due to my travel schedule. While I don’t fly to exotic places such as Manila like Jaredean, I do fly around North America three out of four weeks per month. grin*

Anyway, I go to watch tonights Season opening game between the Marlins and the Cardinals on mlb.tx while finishing up my day. But, it’s blacked out in the US. In the whole US. How stupid is that? Wow.

Trip: Tonight’s game was on ESPN. Is MLB.tx an internet thing? I’ve never watched a game on a computer but I’ve subscribed the past couple of years to MLB games on the radio via computer. That way I can listen to any game I want, with either the home announcers or the visiting team, and still work at my desk. Very inexpensive and baseball is great on the radio.

Bill, Yeah, I saw that afterwards. My bad. Like I said, I was still working. mlb.tv is actually pretty cool. Yes, it’s internet. So I can watch (almost), (or listen) any game, picking home or away broadcast. That includes on my iPhone, which is the really cool thing. The cost is $125 per year. So a little pricey, but as much as I travel I’m hoping it’s worth it. Go to mlb.com and look down the scores. They usually have… Read more »

It is pricey, but the way I look at it the cost is less than what I spend going to one game. Or look at it this way, it’s about 75 cents a game. As I wrote a few days ago, with MLB.tv I will watch Saturday’s game while at O’hare and Sunday’s game in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Meanwhile, I leave in less than six hours for Houston. 🙂 Go Rox!!!!

Yeah, i second the usefullness of MLBtv for those traveling…i’ve been using it while i’m here in the Phillippines for work and love how i can pull up any game and watch it live – and the HD quality is amazing… BUT, when i get hom i will be cancelling it (only paying month to month) because i live in a blackout area, so i wont get any Rockies games live…i do have Root on DirecTV at work and home… Read more »
