Boo Birds Puts Pressure on the Rockies

After a disappointing Memorial Day week in which their grip on the NL West slipped a little bit, the Rockies are glad to put the Aslows in their rearview mirrors. The Dodgers visit Coors Field this weekend. Clay Kershaw brings his ace material to the mound tonight against #162 starter Jon Garland. Kershaw is a perennial Cy Young candidate carrying his 5-3 record and 1.68 ERA. Garland is being set up to epic fail tonight with his stratospheric 5.53 ERA who can’t pitch into the sixth inning.

The boo birds have started to come out in force. The biggest one is Mark Kizla who wrote a scathing column in today’s edition of the Denver Post. The boo birds even showed up last night at Coors Field. Hopefully they will be loud enough tonight to pressure the front office into making immediate changes at the back end of the rotation. Roy Oswalt and Drew Pomeranz are in the process of kicking the door down and forcing their way to the major league team.

After the presumed loss tonight, the Rockies will flip the calendar to June with a 28-27 record. The next 13 of 16 games are at home with a trip to Cincinnati next week for three games. The weather is expected to be 68 degrees under partly sunny sky with the wind blowing WNW at 13 mph. The game will be televised on ROOT and announced on radio KOA 850 and KRNV 1150.

In an attempt to increase their slim odds against Kershaw tonight, the Rockies stacked their lineup with right handed bats. That meant replacing CarGo with EY in left field. Tulo and everyone after him move up one spot in the batting order. On the other side, the Dodgers will be missing Matt Kemp who was put on the DL this week. Absent from the Dodgers roster is James Loney with his off the chart Coors numbers who moved to Tampa Bay.
