Bullpen to Decide If Rox Go Dancing

Over the last five games against two very good teams, the bullpen trashed three of those five games.  If the front office had the foresight to make the bullpen strong, we are playing two or three games above .500 now and within a game of the wild card spots.

While JDLR will take his turn potentially giving Colorado another quality start, who will take their turn linking the starter to Zero?  The common denominator in each of the trashed games was free pass issued by the bullpen and they all scored the tying or go-ahead runs.

German Marquez was promoted to Albuquerque today.  It looks like the Rockies are shuttling everybody from Hartford to Albuquerque to get their feet wet in preparation for September roster expansion and spring training 2017.  First the Rockies need to grasp the sunk cost concept to remove the guys blocking the up and coming young arms.  Let’s see what’s available – Matt Carasiti, Miguel Castro, Sam Moll, and Simon Castro!  Or how about Ag’s and sdcarp’s idea of letting the starters get their feet wet by helping out in the bullpen RIGHT NOW.  Again, let’s see what’s available – Eddie Butler, Kyle Freeland, Jeff Hoffman, German Marquez, and Harrison Musgrave.  Is the front office waiting for the “Slide into Oblivion” to become final before asking for fresh arms????  There’s about ten guys, TEN TEN, guys knocking on the door to The Show.

Pitchers hanging like low fruits on a tree ready to be let go to make room for all the arms:  Justin Miller, Gonzalez Germen, Jake McGee, Jason Motte, Chad Qualls, Brian Schlitter, Christian Bergman.  More than plenty of low hanging fruits rotting.

Pass Nick Hundley, Boone Logan, and Jake McGee through August waivers and get a few bags of balls.  Never know if one of those bags turn out to be a Yency Almonte.

After playing tomorrow’s game at Texas in a matinee affair, they go to Philadelphia.  Expect them to play down to them instead of up to the better teams.  Colorado has given us hints of their potential and it’s time for the front office to show them they are helping the team by taking actions rather than remaining status quo.

Funny that you mention Yhency Almonte. One of the Purple Row writers penned an article about a month ago, suggesting that all future Rockies trades be graded on the “Almonte” scale. He had a semi-elaborate “Almonte” grading system. It was funny. I’ll harp on Eddie Butler some more as we look towards an exciting 2017. Names vying for the starting rotation will be Gray, Chatwood, Bettis, Anderson, Hoffman, Marquez, Freeland, etc. Those are 7 good names. As you note, there are… Read more »

This time last year….I was saying (more than once) that Gray was a dominant Closer waiting to emerge. What happened? Gray learned two new pitches in the off-season and became a 4-pitch guy. That’s made all the difference in the world, With that in mind……Butler “could” do the same. But time is running out AND there is absolutely no shame in being a RP in today’s game.

See what I mean – opportunity is knocking for Butler. He just needs to answer the door!

Well, that was fun for a week or so. Over the weekend — I think it was Saturday, the sole win against the Marlins — I actually saw one of the local TV news sports segments LEAD with the Rockies. Not with Broncos training camp! That hasn’t happened in July or August since … 2011? But it lasted all of one day. By Sunday, this was a Broncos town again and the Rockies had returned to irrelevance.

MLB Network picked up this game in the 3rd inning after Padres-Pirates ended. Just saying. Also just saying you might not want to tune in, as Bettis gave back 3 of his 4-run lead in that inning….. GAAAHHHHH

But our new favorite homegrown hero got his 16th straight hit!!!!

There is no reason the Rockies shouldn’t be one of the better teams in the league next year! The only needs that need to be addressed is the bullpen, and head coach in my opinion. If the bullpen was addressed at the deadline then they would be in a wildcard spot as I type this message. Story proved to be a HUGE loss, Dahl is an absolute stud, we are also seeing the value of Charlie Blackmon. Next year should… Read more »

The Story loss really was/is huge. We were shy one big bat. Turns out that bat was in Hartford and ABQ (Dahl) but by the time he’s up Story is done – so offensively we tread water.

I watched the game from 3rd inning on fast-forward. Up, down, up, down. I’ve got to give a lot of credit to the players (and the fans) who were in that hellish stadium today. Did you see the players dragging back to the dugouts? Whewww boy did we need that one. Really good stick-to-it, Rockies, all of ya, and special thanks Cargo for coming through. Now on to hellish Philly, which place I have visited/have ties. (Maybe you can tell… Read more »

Jared – if you’re reading – anything you can do about the sloooowwww page loading? I know a lot of us mentioned it during the website revamp, and I don’t mean to complain too much to our generous leader.
