Last night nobody wanted to talk about the Rox game, instead talking about two obvious moves that were made. The Rockies did announce that Eddie Butler will be called up to replace Franklin Morales as the starter Friday night. That was what RWOers have been waiting to hear for nearly a month. Morales will be moved to the bullpen. He has easily the best ERA first time through the lineup than the second and third time through making him ideal for long relief. The other topic of discussion centered around a move that should have been made a few weeks ago – putting CarGo on the DL. For over a month, CarGo has disrupted the batting order rhythm by trying to play through his left index finger inflammation and knee tendinitis. Corey Dickerson has earned the right to play everyday with his hitting prowess. It was just a matter of time before he can be an everyday left fielder. The moves remove two white elephants from the room. There was a surprise move that showed that the overly patient management is sending a strong message: We are going to put the best 25 players on the team. Jordan Pacheco was DFA’ed and Mike McKenry was called back to take his spot. Ryan Wheeler is sharing the bus ride north with McKenry as he takes CarGo’s spot on the 25-man roster.
Jordan Lyles (5-1, 3.41 ERA) will take on Josh Collmenter (4-2, 3.34 ERA) in the second game of a three-game series. It was around early June 2013 when Lyles was with the Astros that he started having trouble pitching efficiently and well. Let’s hope he can compete like a #5 starter and keep the Rockies in the game. Colorado is desperately looking to stop their own slide and gain some momentum before the Dodgers come to town with Ryu, Greinke, and Kershaw attacking us.
