Oft times I hear announcers claim that umpires are correct 94% of the time. I strongly disagree with the way statistics are being manipulated to achieve this result.to wit: Umpire “calls” can include such obvious calls as a put out in the outfield, at any base, home run etc. What I am appalled at is the home plate umpiring on CALLED balls and strikes. When swing and miss, foul tip, foul ball, hit by pitch, intentional walk and checked swing are eliminataed from the data (my grandmother can call those) their accuracy drops to a dismal 67% (approximate). I would like to see the electronic strike Zone up on the centerfield scoreboard for every hitter in every park and bypass the egotistic umpires who are nearly incapable of determining whether a 97 MPH fastball which takes .424 of a second to reach home plate is high, low, inside or outside. They are being asked to do too much with the naked eye. COMMENTS?
