CarGo on DL

Carlos Gonzalez has been placed on the 15-day DL – finally. CarGo has been dealing with a sprained finger for weeks now, but the Rockies have been extremely slow and “patient” with him to the point of frustration for fans. Every time he seems to be ok he is run out onto the field and ends up tweaking his finger again, only to be taken out for a few more games.

For his part Cargo insists that the DL won’t help, that he can’t really get the rest his finger needs on such a short rest, but it obviously isn’t helping his finger going in and out of the lineup either.

Francis was brought back up in the move.

So we’re going forward with 13 pitchers (I thought that was the Coors formula) and 12 position players to finish this road trip. Assuming Blackmon starts for Cargo that leaves the following available for pinch hitting duties:

Torrealba
Culberson
Herrera
Dickerson

That’s it. I imagine there’s been a weaker bench at some time on some club throughout MLB history, but right now I can’t think of one …

That move isn’t worth the cost of Francis’ plane ticket to NY.

A trip down memory lane with baseball’s perennial leaders in embarrassing late-season roster mismanagement. September 28, 2002, last weekend at Coors. Rockies had inexplicably run out of pitchers even with extended rosters. They had just called up AA pitcher Cory Vance from his Ohio home a week before. Vance had been waiting for the Arizona Fall League to begin, but guess what? He’s starting! September 27, 2004, final home game. Hurdle decides to start 41 year old Jeff Fassero, who’d… Read more »

Chatwood to the DL with elbow inflammation (originally he’d missed his start due to “hamstring tightness”). I guess we know why ol’ Jeffy was called up after all … it continues to unravel just like the last couple years.

The “elbow inflammation” may be because he threw with his tight hamstring on Tuesday. Or maybe they are just making all this up. At least tonight they lost to a good pitcher. By the way that’s a least two complete games against the Rockies this road trip. And ROOT is proud that now 3 Rockies pitchers have thrown over 100 pitches in a game. Maybe all this babyin the pitchers is why they get hurt. Bed time for me. It… Read more »

Chatwood is worth protecting from serious injury no matter how clueless the organization appears to be.The irony of the Francis call up in yesterdays threads was since Outman wasn’t used two games in a row-when he should have been-why the hell did we need Francis? Now we realize he is being rewarded for his loyalty by being thrown to the wolves in Mets clothing.Does anyone else feel like the organization is in total meltdown? Walt Weiss needs to go,not his… Read more »

Gary, I agree that what Tracy did by walking away was an honorable thing, but I am convinced he was paid to keep his mouth shut regarding the insanity that goes on at 20th & Blake. Has anyone heard a peep from JT since he left? Isn’t it a bit unusual? I’m sure some reporter has approached him to ask for some of the dirt that he surely knows. I’m sure the Rox brain trust doesn’t want to let out… Read more »

We sure know how to collapse. After finishing 2011 going 12-32 over the final 44 games, we went 11-21 to close out last year. So far we’re 1-5 for August 2013. Any guesses on our final W-L record now?

Ag, what these late season collapses mean is that this team has no heart, no fight in them. It’s an organizational malaise that starts at the top.

72-90

Who the hell is Manship? Unless I am reading it wrong on MLB At-Bat, that’s who is starting this morning against the mighty Mets. Real glad my daughter’s family is arriving for a few days so the house will be filled with happiness and the sad, sad Rockies put on the shelf.

Chatwood going on DL with bum elbow- sure glad we have that 100 pitch limit to protect these pitchers from getting hurt.
