CarGo Out of Lineup Against SD

CarGo is still a bit sore and swollen, finger wise, and will sit out tonight’s 2nd of three against the San Diego Padres. Tonight will be the fifth game of a 10-day, 10-game road trip before taking a few days off for the All-Star Break. Tonight’s game also marks the 11th contest of a 16-game stretch in which the Rockies will play all NL West foes, prior to the break (4-6).

• RHP Jhoulys Chacin will be making his 17th start of the season and 4th against Padres. This year, he’s 2-0 with a 4.24 ERA (17.0 ip, 8 er) against the Friars and 4-1 in 10 career games/7 starts against them.

• LHP Eric Stults will start for SD and make his 19th start of the year…he’s 3-1 with a 2.85 ERA (47.1 ip, 15 er) in 7 starts at PETCO Park this season.

Rockies obtain Mitchell Boggs in trade for international signing slot and assigned him to AA. Gardner DFA’d

Mitchell Boggs was good a few years ago. Operative word is WAS. But relievers sometimes need a change of scenery.

Still very young. Went to AA.

So, I can safely discern that:
A) Rockies never throw left handed during Spring training or regular season BP;
B) there are noe left handed pitchers in the entire PCL, so the first time our AAA aces see LH pitchers is when they get called up;
C) The Rocjies scouting organization doesn’t attend any opponents games when LH pitchers start.

Boggs: 29 years old, so no kid. Still throws 94-95, but was never able to put away hitters. Kind of an Anglo Juan Nicasio. Still, I’ll take an upgrade in talent (Gardner to Boggs) any day. If I’m O’Geivett I’m pulling a LaRussa and turning him back into a starter at Tulsa just for the hell of it. LaRussa had some success with that with Braden Looper and a couple others over the years.

Doesn’t matter how he turns out, it cost us only international slot money that we were not going to use.

Does Pacheco have some issue with taking more than one pitch in a high-stakes at bat?

I think Weiss feels he has to pitch Lopez because he was organization’s big move this off-season. So far he’s been terrible. And I think home and on the road. Can’t blame Coors. I’m going to be.

Still, ZERO RUNS will not win any ball game.If they get Tulo,Cargo,and Dexo back after the break it will represent quite an upgrade.I’m afraid Rutledge,Colvin,Blackmon,and maybe Dickerson are not 40 man roster worthy,and may never be.

During the 9th inning of last night’s game when NoDo was on 1B with two out and he represented the tying run, I suggested during the chat that WW should PR for NoDo. Ag and myself thought that PR with Chatwood would be better than having the slow-footed NoDo at first. But after giving it some thought, why couldn’t they have PR Cargo? As far as I know there is nothing wrong with his legs, and I don’t believe he… Read more »

Is Arenado really that slow? No like Helton out there. You certainly wouldn’t put Chatwood out there and ask him to steal a base or anything. Same with an injured Cargo who may hurt his hand sliding into the base on a steal.

So if you aren’t going to steal, I don’t think it was necessary to replace him.

Cisco, good point on Cargo. As for the three amigos who are getting significant OF time in the absence of Dex and Cargo, here’s what they’ve done against the 4 lefty starters we’ve faced over the last 5 games: Dickerson: 1-7, no walks Blackmon: 0-4, no walks Colvin: 1-11, no walks And, of course, no extra base hits from any of the 3. That’s 2-22 total. That’s hitting .091 with an on base percentage of .091 since nobody’s even drawn… Read more »

As I’ve mentioned ad-nausea here in the past, winning is not the priority with this team. I have to laugh when Dickie Boy and BIB go on their annual tour of the air waves during the off season selling their snake oil and telling everyone willing to listen to that crap that they are all about putting out a winning and competitive product out there. What bothers me more is that none of the hacks covering this team have taken… Read more »

Well at I least I made it longer than last year! Last year I stopped watching this team in May. I made it to July this year!!! Probably won’t watch a Rockies game the rest of the year. I’ll just check the box score every morning.

I was surprised to see Renck post this on Twitter, tough talk for him:
Lopez can’t be trusted in close games. It’s a shame. I liked the acquisition. But he’s a sinkerball guy who can’t keep ball on ground.

It’s brutally difficult to watch for sure. And looking at Sky Sox South box, Nicasio goes 8 shutout innings, 105 pitches, hits 1-3. Ben Paulsen has brought his avg up to .294 since Tulo showed up. Dex still hitless. Cook looks like he’s done. Francis can still get the PCL out but 95 pitches in 5 2/3 isn’t gonna bring him back. But hey, Grey goes 2nite for the GJrox who are still leading their division. At Tulsa, Roling had… Read more »

Yeah I’ve been to both the Sky Sox games this week. Tulo looks like he is ready to go. Hitting everything hard to RF. William…not so much.

Our #1 draft pick, Jon Gray, will be making his first professional start for the GJ Rockies tonight at 7:00MT. Anyone with the MiLB package can watch and/or listen to his attempt at becoming our next best starter.

Sure would be nice to have some good news coming our way from GJ around 10PM.

It sure beats what’s happening out west with the MLB? club.

I’ll try and get on chat tonight and give updates regarding said debut.

Tulo and Dex were not sent to AAA to set records, just to get in shape. AAA stats mean nothing. Even if neither get any hits when they play the team is automatically better. CF doesn’t become a sieve and while we all admire Johnny H. once he starts more than a couple of times a week his deficiencies become apparent. It’s been clear to me for the past number of years that winning is not the number one priority… Read more »

Why not have Francis pitch bp? With his slow curves @ bp our guys might get better at facing lefties & Jeff can actually help us win a game or two????
