Jhoulys Chacin took to the mound Friday Night in Milwaukee like he owned it. The first 10 batters he faced were masterfully confused by his mix of pitches, all either popping out (2) or grounding out (4) or best of all striking out (4). He looked in complete control and on his way to an excellent game when the 11th batter, Norichika Aoki, change his perfect game into a RBI hit. The drive to left field was misplaced by CarGo (perhaps trying to keep the perfect game in tact) and as the ball ran to the wall Aoki took to the horn like a track start, coming across home plate unchallenged for an inside the park home run.
Interest in how Chacin would handle to hiccup was answered as he came right back at the next batter, Ryan Braun, striking him out and getting Ramirez to ground out to Tulowitzki to end the inning.
In all Chacin went seven strong innings, surrendering three runs on four hits while striking out six. He also plated a run with a bases loaded single in the fourth after Chris Nelson was intentionally walked.
The key moment in the game came in the top of the 9th, with the score tied, Giambi came in to pinch hit and blooped a single to lead off. EYj came in to pinch run and proceeded to steal second right away. On a Scutaro pop-out he took third and scored on a Cuddyer single. Cuddyer was brought into the game in that very situation and came through clutch.
Betancourt made the save and the Rockies won a very important road game, as well as a one run lead game, something they have struggled with in the past.
