The extra long season continues tonight after a short night’s sleep due to 16-inning affair last night. Brett Anderson (1-3, 3.24) will be counted on to pitch efficiently and make a quick work of the Cubs’ lineup. Heck, he might be asked to pitch a complete game if Walt Weiss continues to defy Bill Geivett’s meddling in the Rockies’ game management. Each time the RWOers think we just set a new standard for bad baseball play, there seems to be something new eventually. Rod Scahill was seen in the clubhouse today. Still awaiting official roster move announcement. Update: Cristhian Adames was sent back after having a cup of coffee last night. Rutledge available in emergency.

I was thinking back to the past couple of years: it seems the team always scuffles, suffers injuries, and generally seem directionless around the uncertainty of the trade deadline. Then, once it’s over (and, typically, we do nothing), the team comes around and plays decent ball. I don’t have a further observation than this — maybe all clubs suffer a bit around this time, after all, it’s only human to want some certainty — but I wonder if this is… Read more »
I was hoping to option Culberson with his bad wRC+ and put Adames in the starting lineup at 2B, moving D.J. over to SS. Guess the management still have this vision of playing Rocktober.
Cisco, I noticed the thing with Weiss letting pitchers go longer too. Looks like he won the epic Weiss-Geivett fight of the century. And what’s this, a crisply paced game? I tune in and it’s already the bottom of the 8th? Will wonders never cease?
Sort of interesting – non-waiver trade deadline is less than 24 hours away and there really very little very action across baseball in general. Lots of talk…..but not much action.
Things I’m watching – will the Matlins be buyers or sellers?
Will the Red Sox trade Lester AND Lackey?
Are the Angels and A’s done….or not?
Lots of speculation that the A’s are gonna pick up one more big name pitcher. Beane obviously sees the AL window wide open this year and is willing to give up a lot to finally make that pennant run. I’ll guess that Lester winds up there since he wouldn’t cost much other than this year’s remaining salary. Hey, maybe they’ll want Brett Anderson back! That would actually make sense for both teams. But you’re right carp, not a whole lot… Read more »
I think in the last few years most of the so-called big deals came on the last day. Looks like the A’s are getting Lester and Gomes but are giving up Cespedes. Cespedes might hit 100 homers in Boston!
Montfart doesn’t want to trade anybody because we’re so close to being a contender. Just ask him.
They can get prospects for Barnes and Stubbs. Why not do it?
Gents (and Lady) – the A’s have balls (pardon the language). Here’s the deal – if they were 5 games under 500 and there were a couple of elite AL teams, they would be selling and reloading. My point is – they do something. We played Boston in the 2007 WS. Since then, the Red Sox have had 2 bad seasons. In both cases, they aggressively sold and reloaded at the deadline to prepare for the following year (remember the… Read more »
The Red Sox keep reloading; they are “building a whole new team” according to Ken Rosenthal.
Meanwhile, our newest starter announced for today is Pedro Hernandez. Apparently because the new theory is that we have to start lefties every game.
Red Sox get Allen Craig from Cards for John Lackey. So they’ve added Cespedes and Craig in a couple of hours. They’re well on the way to fixing their offense for 2015.
So their plan for the offseason is clearly to sign a couple of high profile, veteran, top tier free agent pitchers to supplement their young SPers (I really like the Rubby De La Rosa kid).
Mark it down now…..they’ll be back in the playoff hunt next year.
