Chasing the Wild Game

The Arizona Diamondbacks pulled even at 75-75 with last night’s 15-5 shellacking of the Colorado Rockies, and within 4 1/2 games of the St Louis Cardinals for the second Wild Card.  Nine of their final 12 games are against the Rockies and 59-93 Chicago Cubs.  The have a coaching staff full of champions who know how to win.  And they just happen to be the reigning Division Champs.

They send rookie left-hander Patrick Corbin (6-7, 4.02) to the hill to face Colorado tonight at 6:10 in Denver at Coors Field.  Undaunted, [overmatched] Rockies’ MFL Jim Tracy is turning to one of his (now 3) major-league starting pitchers to oppose him.  Righty Jhoulys Chacin (2-5, 4.58) will look to build on the good work he’s turned in since a long stretch on the Disabled List.  Chacin turned in 5 innings Monday in Colorado’s 2-1 defeat by the Giants.  He surrendered one run on 5 hits.  Corbin delivered his first career eight-inning performance in Arizona’s win over San Francisco, holding the Giants to 2 runs on 8 hits with 5 strike-outs.

Paul Goldschmidt and Miguel Montero swap spots in tonight’s lineup for Kirk Gibson.  Jason Kubel is in left for Gerardo Parra.  Tyler Colvin and DJ LeMahieu return for the Rockies, hitting 7th and 8th.  Josh Rutledge is back at shortstop.

It’s another flawless Colorado evening over at 20th and Blake.  Game-time temperature will be 75° amid 23% relative humidity.  Wind will blow across the field from 1st toward the left-field corner at 6 mph.  Jeff and Drew are rockin’ on ROOT, Jerry and Jack on KOA 850 am.
