Chatwood In, Helton Out on Verge of Being Swept

The Rockies will finish the three game series against the Braves today at Coors before heading to Arizona to start a seven game road trip.

Playing the Braves has been the wake-up call many were saying was on the horizon.  The Rockies looked out manned, out matched and very 2012ish in their effort to put on a “good show”.  Ultimately they were swept up in a doubleheader loss and today they look to keep from being swept on the series.

The lineup includes Tyler Chatwood who hasn’t pitched in the majors since going 5-6 with a 5.43 ERA last season with the team.  He will pitch in place of Chacin, who has been placed on the 15-Day DL.  Chacin feels he will be good to go after the 15 day stint.

Missing from the lineup is Todd Helton, who has been bothered by left forearm strain from Friday.  He hoped to be in the second game of the doubleheader, but he wasn’t used and isn’t in today’s lineup either.  He is aware that he is taking up a spot on the bus, so expect some movement soon.  The loss of Helton in the lineup is particularly difficult, given his .667 lifetime average against Hudson.    Fowler is .455 lifetime against Hudson.

Tulo getting a lot of rest lately….. I feel a win today though despite the spooky pitching matchup. Spark “less” plug will regain his position as Johnny Sparkplug today, I predict he has a big game.

Unfortunately, I think we will have quite a bit of “spooky” pitching matchups this year… That is what happens when you have injury, and Francis in your rotation.

Go Rox!!

Tulo sucked yesterday. How many times did he come up with runners in scoring position yeterday and did nothing.

All of Fowler’s hits come when no one is on base and we’re up by a lot or down by a lot.

All of those “ERAs” are under 1.00! Man why doesn’t Cargo pitch more???

Ok well not ALL of Dex’s hits come with nobody on base. He does have 4 hits out of his 19 that were with a runner on base.

I think this was a couple of years ago, but Fowler had one of the best BA with RISP on the team.

And don’t you want your lead-off hitter to get hits with nobody on?

Still no Helton in lineup. If he can’t play, why is he holding this team hostage and not go on DL? Day to day has now turned into a week and the team is playing one man short.

Yeah they need to put Helton on the DL, not helping the Rox at the moment in any way shape or form. I think the Rox are so terrified of Tulo getting hurt again they are making it a huge point to give him days off. If it works then great, but boy our team sure does look a lot worse off with him out of the lineup. Right now I feel as if Herrera is just a slight improvement… Read more »

Also can’t be scoring less than 4 at home and expect to win consistently.

Interesting that egossage says Dex never gets clutch hits and then he ties the game in the 9th. LOL. Although I haven’t seen it yet, so maybe it was a fluke “angels in the outfield” type double. LOL. Just kidding with you egossage.

and he tied game in the 9th in Mil.,men on or not.And as stated above,as first or second hole hitter he will often come up with no one on,especially as Rox pitchers haved sucked at the plate this year!

Actually Gary he has had quite a few ABs with men on base. Anyways, I know arguing about Dex on this site is a lost cause since everyone loves him so I’ll stop the Dex bashing here. My teammates and I however…:)

Hey it’s all good. I’m used to it.

It’s funny how people can bash Tulo the way I bash Dex and yet no one defends Tulo like they do Dex. What’s up with the love affair with Dex???

egossage, I gotta agree with Jared here. Hey, it’s part of being a fan to have your one player or two on your team that drives you nuts. For a few years with me it was Aaron Miles, the leadoff man – the LEADOFF MAN -who was on the verge of setting a record for fewest walks in season. There’s usually a constant with these least favorite (“hated” is such a harsh word, isn’t it) players: they suck, but for… Read more »

Sure am glad some of you folks weren’t in the stands when I was playing ball! lol

BIG win today. To state the obvious.

Speaking of guys that drive (or drove) us nuts… remember Neifi Perez? Ha! Decent player, unless there were 2 outs in the 9th and he stepped into the batters box. Game over. Popup to short!

Can I just add two words to this discussion – Clint Barmes! Wow do I miss hating on him swinging and missing every down and away slider.

Yet he’s still in the majors and hitting about .135 last time I looked.Of course it’s all Helton’s fault for giving him too much venison,or something like that.

Yes the Clints deserve each other, too bad for Pittsburgh that they can’t do better than some Rockie castoffs!

Barmes was the leading candidate for a couple years there. So we’re getting somewhere here. Types of players it’s o.k. to hate on: 1. Overpaid, often injured, not living up to his contract guys. Ego mentioned Tulo. Works for me. Cuddyer gets called “overpaid” a lot around here but he’s not hateable. Seems like too nice a guy, and most fans just say good for him, he got a big contract he didn’t deserve, blame O’Dowd. 2. Tons of natural… Read more »

Probably unfairly, my object of scorn used to be Chris Iannetta. I mean, the guy seemed to have a ton of clutch hits. I just could never understand why for a guy that got so many clutch hits and had a lot of power why he would 1)bat 8th in the lineup and 2) rather than swing at borderline pitches he probably could crush was content with drawing walks. (Pet peeve of mine is those who think walks are just… Read more »

Category 1 – Larry Walker.

The reference to Neifi Perez brought back memories. My dad (RIP) couldn’t stand him and always called him Nefty.

But it will be hard to dislodge Mike Lansing from the top of my hit parade. They dumped EYSr. for that guy.

Ag, you are forgetting that Giambi was a great clubhouse guy. : )

Have several candidates for all time Object of Scorn, I’ll go with these two (tie): continuing run on contact the whole effing year and 2012 pitching staff and catching for giving put frequent free presses, wild pitches, passed balls, and yielding HRs to next batter after a walk, starters throwing 100 pitches after four innings, and starting off hitters with two and three ball counts.

My object of scorn was Ty Wigginton!!! Couldn’t stand when he came to the plate. And he was just average defensively (jack of all trades, master of none).
