The Rockies with the exception of Basedahl never brought their bats nor their patience yesterday to Miller Park. Chettis put four of the first five batters on base in the first inning due to horrible command (single on strike 2 middle middle pitch, out, RBI grounder error, BB, and BB). The bases were juiced without any of them on via a hit before the Brewers put the game away with a two-run single with a 3-1 lead.
Colorado could not even sniff a threat nor a single walk against the pitcher that has been struggling in the last several starts. And he was the top five for most BB/9 per game.
The offensive, pun intended, problem will continue tonight cuz the front office has done a terrible job with the 40 man roster since we flipped the calendar to August. See Dr. C’s Musings’ feature article that goes into details on everything that went wrong with the 40-man roster manipulation.
Tonight the Rockies are seriously exposed in their lineup. Since DJLM has been scratched with a wrist inflammation, they are showing only 1-4 as a threat while 5-9 are automatic outs. Ryan Raburn playing at first base in the 5-hole. Check. Cross off. Dan Descalso second baseman in 6-hole. Check. Cross off. Nick Hundley. Check. Cross off. Christian Adames at SS in 8-hole. Cross off. Jon Gray. Cross off. Gray has been bad and will continue to be bad. Forecast – an easy night for Brewers’ pitching. Rockies won’t score more than two just like yesterday.
Rant over.
Win series against the Nationals and Cubs. Swept by the Phillies and Brewers. What is this team? I know it’s the bullpen (and the diminished lineup) that has them floundering. But I still have to wonder why they seem so close to being good, and yet so far. It drives me crazy that good-to-great starts by the young guys get trashed. I guess it was Qualls today (following online; Root Sports’ maddening refusal to show day games) who took the… Read more »
Confession RoxnSox – I sort of subscribe to the “if you throw enough stuff at the wall, something will stick” theory. So for every correct prediction made by me, you’ll likely find two incorrect ones.
Carashitty [c’mon, it’s just too easy with that name] left out there to take one for the team … not the bullpen savior I guess. At least not this year.
Guilty! I was “high” on Carasiti and Estevez (and Castro). I say “high” in a relative way – as compared to our in-house alternatives (Qualls/Motte/Miller//McGee/etc). I’m also guilty of making the typically rational assumption they’ll be Managed correctly. When the Astros gave up 4 good players for Ken Giles people (myself included) thought they were crazy. Giles got off to a rather horrific start in April/May and the Astros looked REALLY stupid. But look at what has happened since about… Read more »
I’ve said it 100 times (literally!!!!) – the Rox need to move Eddie Butler to the BP. It’s such a no-brainer.
You know what I miss? Position players pitching in blowout games. When’s the last time our Rockies did that? Are they afraid that Descalso or somebody like that will hurt himself? There must be somebody on the roster who pitched a little bit in college or high school … more fun than watching the horror show that is the Rockies “professional pitchers”
The High School manager has said that he has too much respect for the game which is why he won’t pull names out of the hat when the team is in a deep hitting slump. Really good managers who have won a pennant, a world series and are in the HOF do that. Occasionally managers have two pitchers in the game with one playing left or right and changing position depending upon the hitter. Typically as kids (at least in… Read more »
Attendance: 38. Here’s the bottom of the box score from today’s game for those eternal road warriors, the “Hartford” Yard Goats. I don’t think this is a mistake … they were playing on some neutral “home” site in New Hampshire. What a fiasco. Did someone not pay off the right mafia men or something? How could that stadium STILL not be finished? By the way, Yency Almonte was a little wild, but he only allowed one run in a Yard… Read more »
There is a really, really good chance it won’t be finished next year either (protracted lawsuit between City of Hartford and contractor’s insurance carrier appears imminent). Don’t be surprised, in fact expect, Rockies AA to find a new home.
Sorry I have been around to start new threads for each game. Last week I was at the game in person Tuesday, day game on Wednesday, off day Thursday. Then the annual fantasy football draft weekend in illinois over the weekend. It doesn’t help when bad teams sweep the Rockies which makes me feel like quitting on them at least until they play good teams. To add salt in my wounds, Hundley keeps playing everyday when he is in his… Read more »
