Colorado used a dominating start from Jon Gray to finish the 3-6 trip on a good note. It was critical after enduring a three-day dead meat period (Lyles, JDLR, rain). Tyler Chatwood begins the homestand against Matt Cain and his Giant friends. The next two games the Rox will see MadBum and Johnny Cueto so it is a big challenge for them to regain their swagger at Coors Field.
Today I saw an article that Tony Wolters is fifth in the majors in “stealing strikes” and the catchers ahead of him caught more games than Wolters. Just my gut feeling, but I feel that even though he didn’t start last night he studied the Bosox lineup in the video room. He noticed that Jackie Bradley, Jr. has been swinging very early in counts and early in the game too as well. Gray was able to make the in-game adjustments and ended JBJ’s 29-game hit streak. Gray now has had five quality starts in his last six starts.
Trevor Story has been dropped to seventh in the hitting order while DJLM took his place in the two-hole. That will continue tonight. Charlie Blackmon has been awesome at the top seeing so many pitches to help his friends at the plate. He is now right around .300 after struggling to stay above the Mendoza Line before hitting the DL.
Raise the bar, Rockies and aim for a series sweep to appear large in the Giants’ rearview mirror leading the NL West division.
