Nolan Arenado got the Rockies off to a quick start with a 3-run homer off Crybaby Timmy. A Chuck_Nazty walk and a Tulo infield single preceded the big fly. Then Tyler Matzek had a very sloppy start in the first inning giving up a run on a HBP, throwing error by Mike McKenry, and a single by Angel Pagan. It took Matzek over 30 pitches in the first inning, but he got progressively better each inning. He ended up with a quality start with six innings pitched on 92 pitches. Brooks Brown, Boone Logan, and Zero took over the game to win 4-2. Brown and Zero had clean innings while Logan had some traffic after giving up a solo homer. He was able to limit the damage to the home run.
The Rockies improved to 7-2 including setting a club record of six road wins to start the season. They will be in first place when they visit the streaking Los Angeles Dodgers. Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, and Brandon McCarthy will go against Kyle Kendrick, Jordan Lyles, and Eddie Butler. Adrian Gonzalez has hit safely at least two times in the first nine games this year. Walt Weiss announced that Jorge De La Rosa will make his first start of the season on Monday at Coors Field.
