Colorado Sweeps San Francisco, 4-2

Nolan Arenado got the Rockies off to a quick start with a 3-run homer off Crybaby Timmy.  A Chuck_Nazty walk and a Tulo infield single preceded the big fly.  Then Tyler Matzek had a very sloppy start in the first inning giving up a run on a HBP, throwing error by Mike McKenry, and a single by Angel Pagan.  It took Matzek over 30 pitches in the first inning, but he got progressively better each inning.  He ended up with a quality start with six innings pitched on 92 pitches.  Brooks Brown, Boone Logan, and Zero took over the game to win 4-2.  Brown and Zero had clean innings while Logan had some traffic after giving up a solo homer.  He was able to limit the damage to the home run.

The Rockies improved to 7-2 including setting a club record of six road wins to start the season.  They will be in first place when they visit the streaking Los Angeles Dodgers.  Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, and Brandon McCarthy will go against Kyle Kendrick, Jordan Lyles, and Eddie Butler.  Adrian Gonzalez has hit safely at least two times in the first nine games this year.  Walt Weiss announced that Jorge De La Rosa will make his first start of the season on Monday at Coors Field.

I am giddy with purple Kool-Aid intoxication. I had forgotten how much fun it can be watching winning baseball.

Ottavino was flat out nasty in this series. Nasty. Matzek went 6. That’s the formula. Get 6 serviceable innings out of the SP and we’ll have a chance. Fun to watch.

On the flip side, little Timmie Lincecum is a shell of his former self. Where has his velocity gone?

Matzek’s pitch counts: 27, 17, 8, 12, 13, 15 = 92 / 6 = 15-1/3. Very nice outing getting through 6.

Great place to be heading into LA: 6-0 on the road, guaranteed non-losing road trip, first place coming home if they win at least one game this weekend. We swept Milwaukee early and then caught a bunch of sleeping Giants at the right time. Were the Giants just inept at this point in the season or were the Rox just that dominant and put it to them? I’m hoping the latter. This will be a great test this weekend to… Read more »

Should be a tough series tho, da Bums have been playing better the last few days and we’re going up against that tough 1-2 punch Kershaw/Greinke. Hitters need to think small ball in the Chavez Grande Canyon. Pitchers need to keep leading the league in HBPs and Quality Starts are extremely important. I feel a guardedly confident with the staff when Hundley’s steering their ship, although Mac wasn’t too bad last night.

I love “small world” stories. That sounds like a pretty fun encounter.

Stayed up for the whole game and even the post-game show. Matzek did a Jeckyl and Hyde, and the offense went to sleep for most of the game, previously a very bad combination of events. But, since both teams were playing “real” baseball in a “real” park, it only takes a handful of “real” runs to get a win. Zero throws like a closer, no nibbling at all. Will be fascinating to see if the lengendary arms of LA spoil… Read more »

Am I the only person that actually likes, respects Lincecum? I’d still take him on our team any day.

How can you not love the scrappy undersized kid who comes up and whips ass?
