Colvin Leading Off Against A’s

Seth Smith will make his first visit to Coors Field, gracing the visitors dugout, on a hot streak the team is all too familiar with.  He is 11 for his last 19, with five RBI’s, and has been rewarded with the cleanup position in the A’s lineup card.

Seth is excited to come back to Coors, and has very kind words to say about his time here:

It’s better being a hot hitter regardless of where we’re going, but I’m glad to be playing well when we go back there…I’m excited…I loved it there, nothing but good memories.

Seth and the rest of the team will be facing Guthrie, someone who is coming off a horrible 11 hit, seven run in 3.1 outing one week ago today.

After Guthries performance, he said he wouldn’t be surprised if he was let go from the team soon, based on how poorly he has been pitching.

“I don’t take anything for granted. If they kicked me off the team today, it wouldn’t surprise me. I haven’t earned a spot here. I haven’t pitched very well. I respect the game and I know how it works. I’ve seen guys come up, do very well and earn it. I’ve seen guys who’ve done it well for a while lose it very quickly. If I don’t get another start here, that wouldn’t surprise me. If I got a chance to improve, that wouldn’t surprise me either.

Guthrie is 3-4 with a 6.35 ERA and has allowed 12 HR’s since coming to the Rockies as their “ace”.

Funny prog BUT you are about right. National talking heads last night said the Indians got Rogers and the Rockies will get a hot dog and a cold one next time they are in town.

If we don’t trade dexter now that’s all we’ll be getting for him too!

The Rockies should sweep this series. Seth Smith is such a bad clubhouse influence there is no way the A’s can win a game. (sarcasm)

When the game started Fraser and Goodman were going on and on how good Colon is. I think they have become accustomed to lowering our expectations.

Hang in there Prog, It will get better. I suffered through many seasons of this crap being a Rays fan.

The Rockies are a much better team than what you see happening on the field right now.

OK Mike, if the the Rox are a better team than what we are seeing in the field, what do you suggest is the problem?

I would argue this is a plus team defensively (despite some earlier lapses) a plus team at the plate; and a plus team in the bullpen. Obviously, we have the worst starting pitching in a long time, if not our history. When we’ve had good outings on the mound from the starters, our record is excellent. If we get some help from the starters, we win more than half our games. I just don’t see any help out there right… Read more »

Rockies starting pitching has given up 29 runs in innings 1-3 over the last 6 games. That’s an average of 5 runs they are spotting the other team. I don’t know if I’d call our bullpen plus, but overuse has taken its toll. They could be good if the SP ever stabilizes. I agree our offense is plus, and fielding has the potential to be plus if they can eliminate the mental errors. Baserunning is a minus. Ability to manufacture… Read more »

Might be a good discussion in another thread on what are the duties of fans of a losing team? Does disappointment mean stop listening/watching/attending? Can a fan just turn the whole thing off until next year once they know that there’s no hope for the playoffs (and there is very little if any for the Rockies)? Or do we keep rooting (misspelled it as ‘rotting’ at first)? I was very upset in 2007 when the Denver Post gave up on… Read more »

good topic for discussion DRH. While I have always rooted for our teams(Denver that is) regardless of record, that doesn’t mean I don’t get upset or call out those I feel responsible (players on up). However, there is a fine line between giving up and a fair weather fan just because your team is struggling. Trust me, you ask anyone in 2007 and 2 million people were at both world series games here and the other 4 million were behind… Read more »

Denver Post reporting Tulo may have reinjured his leg today in game in C Springs. Hit HR first at bat and single second. Was going to tag on flyball to center, took a few steps and returned to base. Then took himself out of game. Exactly what I was worried about.
