Colvin Starts Again in Today’s Lineup

Juan Nicasio takes the mound today as the Rockies hope to continue their winning ways.  Last nights win showed that when pitching, fielding and hitting come together it can be a thing of beauty.

Colvin will again start today, playing right field in place of Cuddyer.

First pitch will be at 1:10.

ROCKIES LINEUP

Scutaro (2B)
Pacheco (3B)
CarGo (LF)
Tulo (SS)
Helton (1B)
Colvin (RF)
Hernandez (C)
Fowler (CF)
Nicasio (P)

Don’t know if any of you go to the Rox games a lot and see him all the time; Bob Storey, a Rox usher, was killed in a car accident. Alanna Rizzo said that she talked with him everyday at home games.

It was cool to see the comments displayed, but there were only a few. How do these chats work? Only all comments display while chat is active?

My habit is to watch games on about 50 minute delay so I can fast-fwd thru commercials (sorry CenturyLink + Taco Bell), so I don’t participate in chat.

Typed something in the scroll box but didn’t show up on the blog scroll. Maybe it’s because of my work’s firewall blocking chats? But I do like the new format especially when we don’t have to go to a separate screen.

I would have preferred Tracy split the lefties Helton & Colvin and put Hernandez between them.

The Rockies need a new promotion.
When the Rockies walk 10, fans get tacos.

Nah, for every 10 walks this year the Rockies should donate a walker to a senior citizen’s center.

Should just be same promo-7runs,or 7 walks! And we get tacos when the opposition gets 7 against us on the road. We’d all be eating good and expanding rapidly.

The first mistake of the night was pulling Nicasio. I know he was walking a few, but he had a 2 run lead. With this bullpen falling apart, you need to let that play out.

But he’d thrown a million pitches-most of them bad.

Nicasio is 25. At what point do you stop worrying about pitch counts on young arms? JuNic was over 100 and starting to look wild (on the MLB app strikezone) so pulling him seemed like a good move.

But seriously folks, 3 negative votes for that comment?

Was it as ugly on TV or in person as it was on the radio? Is Matt Reynolds hurt? Is he still on the team? I think he’s been more effective than Outman, Beslile, Brothers and Rogers lately but I don’t think he’s pitched in 3 or 4 days. Perhaps I’m wrong.

I think its pretty clear that the Rockies are at a crucial point in the season. I know it’s early but they are playing worse and worse. The manager uses up all his hitters and most of his pitchers and puts up as a pinch hitter a pitcher who is ordered not to swing. Which may have been why is was called out on pitches that were probably balls. (At least that’s what I have heard as I didn’t see… Read more »

I agree the ump clearly sensed White was not to swing + was having none of it. Why PH? Can’t Betancourt P more than one inning?

This loss is squarely on Tracy’s shoulders. I know he has a reputation as a micro-manager, but today he was at his worst. The reason you do a double switch is so your pitcher can go longer in the game. If that was the case, why did he pull Roenicke after just pitching 1/3 of an inning? If he doesn’t do the double switch when he brought Roenicke in and pulled Colvin, Colvin hits in the 9th with the bases… Read more »

Just now getting around to the ballgame, trying to piece together how things went so horribly wrong (again). Cisco, I agree: why no Matt Reynolds? They still had a lead to protect when they went to Outman. And then of course Brothers was a mess again … and that brought us to the inevitable Esmil I guess. (or was it the other way around) And that kind of feeds in to what I’ve been trying to say. Rogers remains on… Read more »

The organization’s unwillingness to dump Franklin Morales contributed to the decision to not give Al Alburquerque a shot and that guy had a great 2011.

Who will Esmil Rogers cost us this year? Maybe Chris Nelson. Sort of a toss up there, I suppose.

Anyway, holding onto the wrong players for too long is a bad habit of this club.

Prog, that’s a constant theme with Dan O’Dowd. About 3 years ago he was afraid to drop Omar Quintanilla off the 40 man roster, as if that was some kind of precious gold he had to protect. The following year they did pull the plug.

He passed through waivers unclaimed.

And Chris Nelson, now on the DL with a phantom injury? The Nelson experiment is over. Time to let go. Someone would probably claim him, but so be it. The price of keeping him is the inability to grab someone else’s cast-off who has every chance of being just as good and maybe more useful (think: relief pitcher). Hanging onto him through any means necessary says more about O’Dowd’s refusal to admit that he’s another #1 draft pick bust.

If I had a choice between Pacheco and Nelson, I think I pick Pacheco. So I guess its time I drop my support of Chris. Also, as much as I like Giambi and the threat off the bench, I think its time to cut bait there too. Helton, Pacheco, Cuddyer, Colvin, even Rosario can play 1st. Giambi is superfluous. For interleague games in AL cities (and World Series!!!, you know its gonna happen!!), how about EYJ as the DH? Pacheco… Read more »

Did you guys see the bee infestation near first base was crazyyy. On a more serious note Tracys hand was forced with nicasio he wanted him to get through the 5th inning so he would be in line for the win, i totally agree that he over manages far too much double switching so eventually alex white had to pinch hit, a pitcher pinch hitting what a joke! Pitching is awful too many free passes will kill you and this… Read more »

I don’t think they use the DH in the NL parks, right?

“All of the Dbacks runs came with 2 outs.”

Yes, and 4 of their 9 runs reached base on walks.

And seemingly nearly all of their hits came with two strikes on them. Justin Upton homered on a 1-2 pitch. (&#^(&*$^

I think it’s time to send a signal – fire Dac (and I’ve been a Dac supporter) and show the pitchers that it’s time to stop the unnecessary drama. Four major issues – walks, giving up .350 batting average (it’s an estimate) with two strikes on the hitters, wild pitches, and HBPs. Dac has done a good job overall in the big picture of how to pitch at altitude, but when it comes down to details (command) somebody has to… Read more »

I didn’t see the game on tv, but after reading the newspaper of how the 9th inning transpired I was amazed that this strategy was not executed. First three Rox batters load the bases and no outs. Alex White sent to the plate with instructions to leave bat on the shoulder (right?). He reached 3-2 count, right? It is then we should have done suicide squeeze right there. We had nothing to lose right there unless he misses the ball… Read more »

Interesting strategy. It backfires if it’s a terrible bunt and they 1-2-3 DP us. Even if they turn a 1-6-3 DP you have a run across and the tying run on 3B.

The strategy is sound if Tracy believes White knows how to bunt. If you’re replacing a pitcher with one who’s not going to swing, why do it? Overmanaging was brought on by the lack of pitchers getting ahead in the count then losing the batter trying to be too fine. Is that a pitching philosophy of the Coach or the Manager? Or is it just that the pitchers are that bad? So, with inter league starting, the Rox won’t jettison… Read more »

They can’t do a double play since all runners are running on the suicide squeeze.

This business about sending the pitcher up to bat and telling him not to swing no matter what is an okay strategy. But it bothers me that the strategy is subsequently announced to the rest of the world. The next time this situation comes up the opposing pitcher is going to throw 3 right down the middle because Jim Tracy is so stubborn and predictable (see the run on contact play). It would be better to lie and tell everyone… Read more »

Hey, Mike

Maybe White should have squared around to bunt and take just to give the pitcher and the defense something else to think about? Beats being a lawn jockey up there.

There is no DH in the series this weekend because the game is being played in an NL park. I’ve been on the get rid of Giambi bandwagon since last year. The Rockies are not good enough to have a player who can only play one position (and not well), can’t run and bats from the same side of the plate as the player he backs up. And in reality Colivn and Pacheco can probably play 1st better than he… Read more »
