Cookie is Back

It would seem like the Rockies are trying to “throwback” to 2007 with today’s signing of Aaron Cook to a minor league deal. Aaron Cook, along with Manny Corpas, Yorvit Torrealba and Jeff Francis, were all key’s to the 2007 Rockies run to the World Series. All of them have been signed within the last year to the Rockies system.

Today’s signing of Aaron Cook came after the Philies released him on Tuesday. Cook spent last season pitching for the Red Sox, getting a 58% groundball rate outta the offense while on the mound.

Just checking to see if everybody’s awake ๐Ÿ™‚ it wasn’t Franklin, it was Manny. I get those two confused since they both made me equally frustrated when we had them both last time ๐Ÿ™‚

Hate the move. So you have Cook lingering in the wings for the 1st man up when/if a pitcher goes on the DL, what does that say to the rookies who pitch well but get passed up for the below average veteran?

Prog: “the rookies who pitch well.” Where are they hiding them? Gun to my head last week, which one do I choose, Jon Garland or Aaron Cook? I’d have said Cook. Now, no MLB club should relish the idea of having either of these guys in the rotation; signing them is a sign that something is very wrong. But the Coors High School Combined Class of 95/Class of 07 Reunion can’t be stopped!

How did that happen? No J in Cook’s name.

Could see this coming from a mile away. Almost posted a smart ass comment last night predicting it.

I guess I’m the lone ranger when it comes to Franklin. He has some really good stuff. Really good. If he could get it together mentally he would be tough to deal with.

It actually takes effort to like this team. Horrible signing! Why not just bring back Garrett Atkins to play 3B too? Is Brian Fuentes willing to come back and close for us?

It looks like this 20th Anniversary season is gonna be a reunion of Rockies players. Yorvit, Cook, Francis, Corpas, Weiss, Bichette, am I missing anyone else???

Well I was actually hoping (unrealistic I know) for was Lohse, however would have settled for Happ and Neimann, what we actually get is Garland and Cook (dumpster diving). BTW does someone else have one of those twelve digit calculators to figure out just how many Rockies dollars DanO has now wasted (flushed down the toilet!) on the combined acquisitions of Cuddyer, Hernandez and Guthrie. But remember these guys were established veterans with great clubhouse attitudes – you just can’t… Read more »

I see Mr. Jason Hammel is opening for the O’s.

I don’t have much heartburn over Cuddyer. Yes at the time he was signed I did but he has exceeded my expectations.

What did Cuddyer do to support his $10M+ last year? We could have had Willingham at $8 per year, but the Rockies had to sign the clubhouse guy at the higher price tag.

So we sign Cook, Garland, some dude that has 17 years of minor league experience …etc and seemingly give no consideration to younger guys like Josh Stinson? Is Stinson a world beater? Probably not but why not expand the search to beyond the geriatric crowd and try someone like Stinson?
