Tonight’s game will include Colvin playing in Right for Cuddyer, who is nursing his sore toe for a second game off.
Surprisingly out of the lineup is is Giambi, who is 7 for 14 with 3 HR’s and 8 RBIs in his career vs the Brewers starter Marcum. Hard to go wrong with Helton at first, but logic would state that Giambi deserves the start with those kinds of numbers
Here is the lineup for the 6:10 start time:
2B Scutaro
CF Fowler
LF CarGo
SS Tulo
1B Helton
C Hernandez
RF Colvin
3B Nelson
RHP Chacin
Here i’m going to really question the line-up with Giambi’s numbers against Marcum…i don’t know why he isn’t starting…
I’m sure with Chacin’s fragile confidence, JT wanted to make sure the best gloves are behind him. Plus factor in the possibility Tulo could have a couple of mental blocks on throws to 1B. You want Helton to save Tulo’s throws.
Sure you can’t see into the crystal ball, but how about Giambi coming off the bench to get a single to start the 9th inning rally!
I agree jaredean
We need to see Chacin put one together tonight!!!!
Back at the ranch Kemp has hit yet another 2 run homer. That dude is on fire.
That’s how ya do it Tulo great hit
Do you guys like that Tulo promo?
I miss chat
I hear ya…I just grabbed the laptop and told my wife…”going to check on the other guys at the bar”…scary she knew I was coming to the site….:)
Hope we can hold on for Chacin–as I write this Toddfather puts one in the seats!!!!
Go Rox!
2 for 2
Nice work Todd!
another go on contact out…..
yeah, but I have to wonder if Hernandez was not looking back he might have made it. RUN!!
not that I agree with the run on contact, but if MMJT calls it, RUN
I don’t think it was run on contact. The ball was hit so hard right at the bag and Hernandez wanted to go back to 3B, but Aramirez was closer to the bag than Hernandez. So Hernandez thought, “heck with it, going to run home rather than be out at 3B.” If we look at the slo-mo replay, Aramirez was much closer than Hernandez.
Time for a nail biting close from Betancourt!
Awesome move by jimmer starting the inning with giabi then pinch hitting cuddyer! way to go tracy awesome moves! how about having a little eyj the bench for some speed he such a weapon!
nice win. good outing by Chacin.
I agree, nice 9th inning. Lets get them again tomorrow.
Wow – great game all around. Chacin going 7 innings, 11 hits, no errors, Tulo looking good, good use of Giambi EY2 and Cuddyer (could he BE more likable?), and of course a WIN ! Way to start the road trip.
I am for sure one of the biggest critics of MMJT, but tonight his plans went well, so my congrats!! Well played Pig, well played.
Cuddyer is the anti-Wiggington in the clutch!
I was thinking no chance in 9th inning with man on third and 1 out with Dex, a strikeout swinger, going against a strikeout pitcher. And I thought no way JT would make a move to pinch hit Dex. It’s about time you manage the game right JT!! I also thought a critical play was by CarGo on the double in the bottom of 9th. Instead of trying to make a highlight reel catch, let the ball bounce off the… Read more »
I want to add that every road game is very important. Our two best road records in franchise history were in the years we went to the playoffs (2007 and 2009). If we can hang around .500 on the road, we are in good shape.
Now we must win tomorrow to take the series because we are waving the white flag for Sunday’s game.
Dude ………. You already have me hot and bothered about Sunday and it’s early Saturday AM. Let’s talk about Sunday like rational adults: Helton gets a day …….. I get that. So Giambi (or maybe even Colvin) at 1st. Play Rosario TODAY with Pomeranz…….so Hernandez Sunday. Scutaro must play Sunday. So the only real decision to be entertained by logical baseball minds is Colvin vs. Fowler in CF. Keep in mind the Brewers are throwing Gallardo. So even with our… Read more »
Why must scutaro play? Herrera has been great and I also wouldnt mind seeing eyj start there once in a blue moon iwonder if that option still exists? I have no problem with subs for Nelson Fowler or sctaro every 3rd day
Yeah but everyone just had a day off on Thursday. That should take place for players being rested on Sunday. I know it won’t happen but that’s the way I see it. Oh Jim Tracy how you frustrate me!!!!!
sdcarp you know what cracks me up. Week 1 – “expect to see Rosario catching whenever Nicasio is on the mound”. That didn’t make it to the next go around in the rotation.
I agree with your suggestions, sdcarp. Todd needs a day and the catcher situation calls for rests b/c of the nature of the position (and trying to groom Rosario for everyday C). But beyond that, I see days off as “when needed” and very occasional. So I would say why rest Fowler at all? Agree with Scutaro staying in. Even though he’s older, he has more energy than a lot of the younger guys (and more fire). Give him a… Read more »
In response to Pooter: I understand Scutaro is off to a slow start, but that guy is so professional. He works counts, moves runners over, much better than average defensive range (and defense in general) and most importantly a solid lead off hitter. When he doesn’t play, the batting order must be altered. He’s on an entirely different level than Herrera. FWIW – Herrera does need to play once a week. But let it be Monday when Helton is back… Read more »
I agree that the subbing should not be wholesale instead sprinkling days off for example last night woulda been a good night to rest Todd given that giambi has such great numbers against marcum I just have no hope for fowlor I don’t think hes gonna get any better than he is now and I like to see other people get a chance to win his spot I do agree that it looks like you like eyje has found his… Read more »
Pooter, if Fowler were to lose his job I would way rather have Colvin in CF than EY. I do agree with you on Fowler. I’ve always thought he was horrible!!!!
Actually it’s been three games that EY has won with his speed. Also I should point out that Scutaro has ZERO strikeouts and leads all major leaguers currently for most consecutive PAs without a K.
Ask the Red Sox if they miss Scutaro now. YES!
I am just pumped how good this team looks when they can get a okay starting pitching performance team is dangerous has several weapons! I love cuddyer
Agree about not loving Fowler. Never understood the hype. I like Colvin in there with Blackmon up soon as backup. Like EY2 as used last night (last year I wanted to trade him but can see he does bring some value in a limited role).
I think we are putting way too much emphasis on “subbing”. I truely believe that if we can’t wholesale swap Herrera, Colvin, and Rosario, individually or all at the same time, we may as well move on to 2013. Each one of these players will need to be big contributors for this season to be successful. Just not on Sundays? Double switch not allowed on Sunday? Hey Rosario yes you are our guy, the man when it comes to catching… Read more »
I think we should have “Brown Bags Sunday ” as part of the Year of The Fan theme. Put bags over our heads.
As our Designated Fowler Defender (DFD) I must add my two cents: 1. Fowler is NOT a great player. Probably never will be. Don’t let unfulfilled expectations get in the way of rational judgements. 2. Fowler IS at least an average MLB centerfielder. We know this over the course of 3 full seasons. He’s been exactly average as a major league hitter — 99 on the Runs Created scale where 100 is average (that would, of course, be a bit… Read more »
Sorry meant to give this a plus 1. I agree all out with you here
Great analysis Ag.
This is anecdotal, but I remember some big clutch hits from Dex last year. I mean if we are going to dump on Wiggy for being a rally killer then give Dex credit for clutch.
I still like Fowler. I think when he does make decent contact, he ends up with doubles and triples. I do think he needs to improve however to keep his role…depending on how others develop. If 3B, C and RF improve this year (and thus far they have) then its okay for CF to remain average. It will be interesting to see how much his arbitration amounts continues to be. Fowler really hasn’t shown enough yet for the Rockies to… Read more »
I’d like to see the rest of the Rockies progess to the point where Fowler bats eighth because we have 7 better hitters in the lineup, and he’s playing because of his defense. I could deal with his aggravating swing and strikeouts better from the 8 hole than the 1 or 2 hole. From that spot, he might actually get more RBIs because he appears to be swinging for power, rather than trying to get on base or move a… Read more »
