Matt Daley, a Queens native, signed a minor league deal today with the New York Yankees. He is still re-habing from the rotator cuff injury he sustained last August. The Yankees also signed Cole Garner to a minor league deal. He was non-tendered by the Rockies in December. Daley played several seasons with the Rockies, while Garner played last year in CS. He was called up for a few games in July.
Daley & Garner: Off To NY

I, for one, will really miss Matt. Not becuase I loved that most of our bullpen was named “matt”, but mostly because, when he was on his game, i really trusted him when he came out of that door in right/center field. I thought he should have been on our opening day roster after his spring training outting, and I was bummed he was injured after his eventual call-up. I wish him well.
And Carlos Zambrano is off to the Marlins. I wish Matt Daly the best with the Yankees. I hope he can fully recoup and be successful.
I like Matt because he wasn’t going to go off the rails and walk 2 or 3 guys in an inning like some pitchers the Rockies have been enamored with before.
Daley always was a great interview at the Fan Fest. Drew Goodman liked to get him to tell his story: undrafted out of college; had to work his way all the way up to MLB. I think that’s why he was so steady on the mound, he kept an even demeanor in the face of adversity.
Daley seemed like an awfully nice guy, and it was great to see a guy from a little liberal arts college succeed in the majors. Shame that his arm just didn’t hold up. On a related point: the Rockies have done absolutely nothing so far to fill out the bullpen. They gave away Street — that doesn’t bother me at all. What does bother me is that they haven’t brought in anyone who appears even close to MLB ready to… Read more »
We don’t really need to bring in anyone for the bullpen. We pretty much have it set even without Street. Bettancourt, Brothers, Belisle, Lindstrom, Reynolds, Escalona, and somebody that just missed being in the rotation like a Esmil Rogers.
Zambrano and Ozzy in the same dugout. That should be interesting. The NL east is really becoming a beast-except for the Mets.Wish Daley well, great kid.
was disappointing to see Daley struggle after the injury..just was never the same.
Gary…interesting with those 2 in the same dugout is an understatement…just like other head cases (who can forget Bradley) you know the fuse is already burning. Just a matter of time.
Not to mention Ramirez…
Wow! Just got here from ITR. I’m a little behind but great work.
So, any predictions on how long it takes CZ and Oz to get a grip on each other’s necks?
Spring training? Opening day? Memorial Day? July 4? Aug 1? Labor day?
