The Rockies will bid adieu to the Atlanta Braves tonight, hopefully looking back at a split series before the Rox jump on a plane to the west coast to play the Giants and Dodgers.
Last nights win was topped with a bit of a cherry for those patiently waiting for the MLB debut of Tyler Matzek. The five-year wait was well worth it as the fans were treated to an excellent exhibition from the future regular starter. 4 1/3 perfect innings and seven scoreless frames made it seem like the kid would go for the shutout. But his low pitch count, coupled with the very first sign of traffic and WW decided to let him sit the rest of the game out instead of seeing if he could pitchout out of it.
Oh, and he also got his first single out of the way in the 7th.
Not a bad job, although a shame he couldn’t stay in to finish the thing up, or at lease be given a chance to get through the eighth.
One thing that was great to see: the kid that usually struggles with command, and is know for a lot of walks mixed in with strikeouts, gave zero free passes while striking out seven. Can’t wait for his next start!
