The Arizona Diamondbacks suit-up for game 161 dead-even, 80-80. One Colorado Rockies win tonight or tomorrow leaves the Snakes 81-81; Colorado victories tonight AND tomorrow make the Dbacks losers. The Rockies will send right-hander Jhoulys Chacin (3-5, 4.78) to the mound to put-on the hurt in a 7:40 start at Chase Field in Phoenix. Arizona will counter with lefty Patrick Corbin (6-8, 4.77) in a rematch of the August 22 contest the Diamondbacks won 8-7 on the strength of a 5-run sixth at the expense of Colorado’s Carlos Torres. Corbin has been struggling, lasting only three in that start and his last. On Thursday he fell to the Giants, allowing 6 earned runs on 7 hits. Chacin aims to close-out 2012 on a positive note. He has a 3.23 ERA in eight starts since returning from the Disabled List, but has labored under high pitch counts, making it more than five innings just twice.
Josh Rutledge gets a start at 2nd-base for the Rockies tonight, with Jonny Herrera at shortstop. DJ LeMahieu gets a try at 3rd, hitting 6th. Kirk Gibson has Jason Kubel in left-field, hitting 6th for Arizona. Gerardo Parra moves over to center-field, leading-off.
It’s still summer in the desert, 93° at game-time, with a cross-wind of 6 mph blowing from 3rd base to the right-field corner. It’ll be clear with 10% relative humidity. The Colorado broadcasters are pushing hard toward the finish. The ROOT crew has the TV; radio’s KOA 850 am.

LeMahieu at 3rd tonight? Why not. I hear Carlos Torres will be playing 3rd tomorrow. I am SOOOOOOOO over the Rockies template of 1 player fits all positions template. For me it’s nothing more than the “jack of all trades master of none”
It’ll be interesting to see what happens to this model if JT is no longer MFL. He’s the one who loves having all these pieces to move around in his double switches. With him gone….wait, what am I saying. He wasn’t responsible for this dog and pony show. I’m sure Billy G. will give him a thumbs up to finish out his contract. With all the bad luck and injuries behind them, J.T. is the perfect candidate to guide the… Read more »
Another ph opportunity skipped because of the short bench. And the pitcher we leave in gives up the damn lead. What a joke.
