Lefter Dexter comes through again.
Fowler hit two home runs during Friday night’s game at PetCo. The switch-hitting Dex has looked nothing but money from the left side, as all six of his long bombs have come from that side of home. His second HR of the night came in the eighth off Rockies ex-closer, Huston Street. Locked in as Dex has been, Street didn’t stand a chance. Asked after the game if Brignac’s at-bat before him (warning track out) helped, and Fowler answered that it didn’t, that he in-fact knows what Street has pitched him in the past and used it to make the man look the fool.
- Josh Rutledge had a Taco Shot after Fowler’s 2nd bomb in the 8th, giving the Rockies a back-to-back HR attack and enough runs to keep Betancourt cool for the clean close. It was his first HR of the season.
- Todd Helton caught fire, giving credit in his post-game Stout interview to bullpen catcher Pat Burgess, who has been watching film with Todd to see if he can fix his sloppy swing since the end of Spring. It seems like the film worked as Todd went 3-4 with a key double in the eighth. Helton more than doubled his AVG that was .095 coming into Friday’s game and .200 leaving.
- Garland went six while giving up three runs on six hits. He struck out four and, as Todd put it after the game, was efficient and gave them a chance to win.
- Wilton Lopez continues to struggle, his ERA climbing from 10.80 to 12.46 after only one inning of work. He surrendered two runs on three hits and looked like the weakest link.
