The Rockies will be in San Diego for the next three before the final series against the Dodgers heading into the All Star Break. After an extremely dismal weekend series in Arizona, one that saw the Rockies completely lose any and all concept of hitting, the team is really hoping for a bounce-back from their good ol’ punching bag Padres.
The team announced they were placing Roy Oswalt on the 15-day DL with a left hamstring strain. Oswalt’s hamstring most likely couldn’t bear to watch another beating and decided to shut down in Sunday’s embarrassing 6-1 loss. The team COMBINED for only two runs and 12 hits in the whole series!!! They were outscored by 21 hits and 20 runs by the snakes.
With Oswalt on the DL the team called up Charlie Blackmon for his second shot at making the team this season. His first opportunity came at the end of may and only lasted 12 games. He had a forgettable line of: .240 .269 .360 and was quickly sent down to work on his swing. He was hitting .288 with 40 RBI’s in 68 games, but again, it was Triple-A.
Tyler Chatwood will be on the mound for the Rox and he will face Edinson Volquez.

Strange but true – Rockies are allies with the dodgers for next three games. Dodgers sweep snakes and rox sweep padres and were right back in the race. #dreaming
Rockies win. Doesn’t matter how ugly it was. It’s a win. Can’t wait to get Tulo, Dex and Cargo back in the lineup. The way Betancourt pitched the 9th it reminded me of the old Baltimore closer. Stackhouse? Earl Weaver used to call him Full pack Stackhouse because he would smoke a full pack while Stackhouse pitched in and out of trouble.
Hope both Chatwood and Betancourt didn’t get hurt tonight.
Ha Bill. Been trying to remember Stackhouse for a couple years now!
At least I think that was his name.
His name is actually Don Stanhouse. A little known fact about Stanhouse for those of you that have been Denver Nuggets fans for a long time-Stanhouse actually played basketball as well as baseball at NC State. He was on the national championship team of 1974 with none other than David Thompson.
Also, since he was such a character, his teammates have him the nickname of “Stan the Man unusual”. A play on words on the other Stan the Man-Musial.
I had forgotten that alternate Stan the Man Unusual nickname. One guy with two absolutely classic nicknames. Cisco, the NC State basketball player was Stanhouse’s successor if I remember correctly, Tim Stoddard … A guy with zero nicknames unfortunately.
Ag, I stand corrected. You are absolutely correct, it was Stoddard on the NC St BB team with Thompson.
