DLR on for No. 8

Jorge De La Rosa (1-1, 3.86) will be looking to build on his first win in nearly 2 years when he steps to the mound for the Colorado Rockies tonight at 6:10 pm MDT at Coors Field in Denver.  Colorado will be looking to extend a 7-game winning streak behind the left-hander.  They’ll be opposed by Arizona Diamondbacks righty Trevor Cahill (0-2, 3.50).  Meanwhile, the peculiarly positive Mojo surrounding the Rockies has been suspended in a vapor-cloud of dread as right-hander Jhoulys Chacin awaits the results of a Saturday morning MRI to determine the extent of the Left Oblique Tightness he encountered in Friday night’s 3-1 victory over Arizona.

De La Rosa has a tough act to follow after Chacin baffled the Diamondbacks with 6 1/3 3-hit shutout innings.  The lefty was up to it on Sunday in San Diego, when he picked-up the win courtesy of Todd Helton’s 2-run homer with his own 6 shutout innings of 2-hit slinging.  Cahill is coming-off a strong performance as well.  He did the shutout thing for 7-1/3 Sunday against the Dodgers but didn’t figure in the decision of Arizona’s 1-0 triumph.

As customary, Yorvit Torrealba will be in Walt Weiss’ lineup to catch De La Rosa, hitting 8th.  Eric Young leads-off in right-field and Michael Cuddyer moves to 1st-base for Todd Helton.  RWO’s favorite defender, Reid Brignac, is in at 3rd for Chris Nelson, and will bat 7th.  Kirk Gibson and the Staff of Champions will have Alfredo Marte on in left-field for Gerardo Parra, with center-fielder AJ Pollack leading-off.  Josh Wilson is at 2nd-base and Cliff Pennington slides over to short.  Former Rockie Wil Nieves is catching.

The balmy Colorado spring weather will continue over at the old ballpark this evening, with a game-time temperature of around 52° and barely any wind, a 4 MPH breeze that’ll blow across from right to left early, and swing-around to blow-out toward right in later innings.

It’s a home game so ROOT Sports’ All-Star cast of dozens will be on-air, featuring that ol’ spitballer George Frazier.  Over on 850 KOA it’s Jerry and Jack.

Rox are reporting that Chacin feels a lot better today and thinks it’s just another back spasm and not an oblique. MRI tomorrow to confirm. If he misses a start they apparently don’t want to call up Pomeranz yet (and I kind of agree, since Pomeranz really needs some consistency in development), so maybe Chacin will go, maybe we’ll cringe through a Nick Schmidt or Aaron Cook start.

I’ll doubt they will call up Cook or Schmitt since neither is on the 40 man roster and there is no room to add them. If they do need to call a pitcher for emergency start, my guess it will probably be Scahill or Volstad.

Aaron Cook tonight at CS:
5.2 IP, 8H, 7 Runs
Why bother keeping this guy around? He’s cooked (pun intended).
