Double Trouble

The Rockies and Phillies will tee it-up twice today in a day-night double-header at Citizens’ Bank Park in Philadelphia.  Game 1 is at 11:05 MDT, with the night-cap at 4:35.  Right-hander Tyler Chatwood (4-4, 5.53) will go for the Rockies, along with the entire lineup posted by Jim Tracy for Saturday’s rained-out contest.  Saturday’s scheduled starter, lefty Cole Hamels (14-6, 3.04), and lineup are on for the Phillies as well.

The second game will be a battle of rookies, achey-breaky left-hander Drew Pomeranz (1-8, 4.93) for Colorado and righty Tyler Cloyd (1-1, 2.77) for Philadelphia.  Pomeranz is coming-off a dreary, albeit shut-out, three inning appearance Tuesday in the Rockies’ 6-0 victory over Atlanta.  Cloyd in contrast is looking like The Next Big Thing.  Called-up August 29 to fill-in for Hamels, Cloyd has made two starts, allowing 4 runs on 11 hits with 14 strike-outs after a 15-1/2.26 season between AA Reading and AAA Lehigh Valley.

The storm has moved-on.  It’ll be 74° under partly cloudy skies for the first pitch of game 1.  Humidity is down to 47%.  Wind will blow-in from left-center at 7 mph.

ROOT has TV for both games.  Radio KOA 850 am.

Cargo’s laid back attitude is really beginning to piss me off. He made no effort to try to sell that game ending play as though he caught it. The umps made no call on the play because they didn’t know what had happened. Without instant replay, what do you have lose. I recall a few years ago Barmes had a similar play in a crucial late game situation against the Cardinals. Replays showed Barmes picked the ball up off the… Read more »

More than the failure to sell the catch, I don’t like how he didn’t seem pissed off in the dugout afterwards. I would expect a beat up water cooler at least.

Funny Cisco and Prog, i though both of those very same things — Cargo didn’t sell the “catch” and he didn’t seem angry in the dugout. As far as comparing it to the Barmes catch i don’t think it is the same thing. The catch that Barmes made was at the end of 2009 and the Rockies were trying to hold onto a slight lead over the Braves on the way to the playoffs. When Barmes came up with the… Read more »

I missed it,but not the trillion passed balls!Wilin needs to learn to play first base.He has to be more agile than Prince Fielder,we know he’s faster.Otherwise he would make a great DH,so trade him for a proven front of the rotation starter and reaquaint Pachecco with the “tools of ignorance”,while keeping Hernandez as mentor and part timer. Those 2 PB’s were in game on the line situations and I don’t think a vet like Belisle was at fault. He actually looked amazed… Read more »

Interesting that MFL Tracy brings Bettancourt into this game with the Rox down 7-4 but he didn’t bring him in on Friday with the score tied in the 9th. Go figure.

Cisco, I just noticed — identical posts from both of us re: Betancourt usage, different threads, exactly at 7:43 for both of them …

I did notice that Ag. That’s really creepy. Proof that great minds think alike and simultaneously.
