DrewPo’s Chance to Make Good

One team down, two more to go.

The Rockies made good on the home field advantage against the Cubs over the weekend, taking the series with a NoDo assisted win Sunday. It was the first series after the All Star Break as well as the first three of 10 at home.

Tonight the Rox start a four game series against the Marlins. In a roster move to bring Drew Pomeranz back up to pitch, the team sent Josh Rutledge down to work on his game. RutRut is hitting .211 | .271 | .313 over 67 games and looks more lost at the plate than TyCo.

It could be a matter of switching bad fruit for worse with DrewPo’s numbers on the mound.

vs. Marlins (T. Koehler – R)
1. Dexter Fowler (S) CF
2. DJ LeMahieu (R) 2B
3. Carlos Gonzalez (L) LF
4. Troy Tulowitzki (R) SS
5. Michael Cuddyer (R) RF
6. Todd Helton (L) 1B
7. Wilin Rosario (R) C
8. Nolan Arenado (R) 3B
9. Drew Pomeranz (R) P

After the game? I fell asleep during the game. Didn’t miss anything either….. sigh.

One of these days I’m going to look up the Rox won loss record since BIB DoD came to the Rox. And compare it to the some of the other teams, such as Pittsburgh which has not had a winning season in 20 years or so. I’m not optimistic the Rox will look much better, if at all.

Well we can blame Drew all we want. But he would have had to pitch a shutout tonight. And tomorrow they face the Marlins All-Star. Although he was probably an All-Star only because every team has to have an All-Star.

That was really boring. Walt, Root Sports guys: THIS IS NOT A “POTENT LINEUP.” It is, at best, an average offense. One superb hitter for his position (Tulo), one very good hitter for his position (Cargo), one slightly above average hitter for his position (Dex), and the rest are either around average at best or well below average. Stop kidding yourselves. This is not an aberration. This is reality. A somewhat below average offense with numbers that are somewhat inflated… Read more »

Ag, I think this is another great explanation of Ed the Ump’s season-long thought of “smoke and mirrors’…

Thank goodness college football’s only a month or so away…

For a team that presents themselves as “contenders”, this team does a good job of just giving away games. What was it that DrewPo had done prior that the Rox announced before the ASG that DrewPo would be making this start? Is he on some sort of scholarship? Memo to Rox brass: Please have a sit-down with Helton and tell him that if he wants to stay on this team the rest of year he’ll have to accept a utility… Read more »

Pomeranz is like a pitching machine! He shows the ball and then flings it to the hitter. The only difference is a pitching machine has less fat and more heart.

“Mid-market” Tampa (actually small market based on how they draw) is showing us all over again the difference a smart GM can make. They are officially rebuilding, having moved big contracts like Upton and Shields for prospects. They’ve won 13 out of 14 and are in a virtual tie for first in the big bad AL East. That’s what having a plan and the smarts to execute it can do for you. The Diamondbacks are another example. They made some… Read more »

I thought Drew did better than he has in some time, even with them hitting him. I also think there is some potential there, but only after the rest of the season with instruction and a chance to build some confidence in the minors, I am thinking, Tulsa not Colorado Springs. He needs to be able to use a full complement of pitches. I was amazed that he was just learning how to throw a slider. I would think if… Read more »

I read before yesterday’s game that since their 13-4 start, Rockies have the 3rd WORST record in NL. Yet Monfort and DoD and lots of other continue to drink the purple Kool-Aid.

On another note my son sent me a recently published book titled Baseball in Denver. Looks like it’s mainly photos so I should have a book review ready in the next day or so. Looks like fun.

Are they drinking purple koolaid or merely pushing it? Pushing it will make them a lot of money. Just saying.
