Edwar Cabrera Making MLB Debut Tonight Against Nats

The Rockies have optioned right-handed pitcher Zach Putnam to Triple-A Colorado Springs to make room for tonights starter: Edwar Cabrera.

The 6-foot left-hander Cabrera has spent the 2012 season at Double-A Tulsa, going 8-4 with a 2.94 ERA (98.0 ip, 32 er), 23 walks and 82 strikeouts in 15 starts for the Drillers. A native of Bani, Dominican Republic, Cabrera was recently named as one of the pitchers for the World team at the 2012 All-Star Futures Game, one of two Rockies prospects selected to play in the game (also Nolan Arenado). Cabrera split his 2011 Minor League season between Single-A Asheville and High-A Modesto, and combined to go 8-3 with a 3.34 ERA (167.0 ip, 62 er), 41 walks and 217 strikeouts. Cabrera’s 217 strikeouts led all of Minor League Baseball and set the Rockies all-time organizational record. Cabrera was originally signed by Colorado as a non-drafted free agent on March 5, 2008.

I think both Tracey’s[mgr.,writer]are fed up making excuses for the BIB GM.JT has been more outspoken, emotional, angry in interviews than at any time in his tenure.TR can smell something rotten in Lodo, and as a HOF journalist is reporting, with restraint I believe, that a major upheaval is needed. The DLR situation is an I told you so moment for me,but I wish it weren’t.Lets hope they can get him right for next year without another tommyjohn! If Pomerance doesn’t have a great second half, than DOD… Read more »

Who’s the guy who writes that Rockies Prospects Report blog? I only ask because he nailed the Edwar Cabrera thing:

“Cabrera won’t get himself into much trouble by excessive walks but he still pitches too fat in the zone at times and against the best hitters in the world, that’s going to be a dangerous flaw, maybe even a critical one.”

It’s almost like he wrote it AFTER Cabrera’s MLB debut (but it’s time-stamped in the afternoon before the game)
