It looks like we still might be in for a longer season, but only if we are play-off bound through the Wild Card route. Commissioner Selig has been working on expanding the play-off’s to include an extra wild-card team from each league. These two extra WC teams would meet in a one-game play-off with their counterpart WC team in the same league. The conflict, this season at least, is in the scheduling of the extra game. Next season it wont be an issue because they can set the schedule to accommodate, but this season it might be a bit trickier.
Expanded Play-offs Still Possible

The surprising thing about this story is the fact that they were talking about expanding the play-offs last summer, if i can recall, so they should have adjusted the schedule then to accommodate the possibility. Amything they can do to help a media popular east coast team like the Red Sox. I do admit it is kind of embarassing when you have a team spending upwards of 200 million not make the playoffs.

I thought that was a done deal too; last I remember was that it should begin in 2012 but when they made the schedule it was almost too late but with just one extra game to decide the WC representative, maybe they can squeeze in a day.
