The Colorado Rockies have hired Eric Young, Sr. and Pedro Astacio as “guest instructors” during the teams spring training.
Manager Walt Weiss told Troy Renck that,
I love it. Bringing guys back to our organization who have been successful gives us credibility. I only see it as a positive…I will tell them to just roam around and spread the love.
There is a chance that Larry Walker could join the team “guest instructor” staff as well, after the WBC wraps up.
Young’s focus will be, no surprise here, stealing and bunting while Asticao will most likely “spread the love” around the mound.
I wouldn’t mind EYsr staying on and becoming our first base coach, although Lachemann might have issue with that…The dream would be to hire away Davey Lopes, but that will never happen…
I think you stole that quote from me: “The dream would be to hire away Davey Lopes”. LOL. I will be on cloud 9 if we get Lopes in the 1B coaching box.
RMH, you and I have always touted Lopes as the best FBC (i do have documentation that i said it as far back as last April in one of my comments about killing to get Lopes – http://jaredb17.sg-host.com/2012/04/17/another-poor-start-missing-offense/)…
I remember when you were talking about him I was stoked someone else here recognized the man for what he is – a genius when it comes to the running game…
Noticed in the Post Astacio was 5 games over .500 career, + 5 games over .500 as a Rockie!
If we had 5 guys like Pedro we’d be all set.
In advance of the first ST game and all that comes after, here’s my opening day lineup for the Rockies. We should go young, and Young, this year. Last year brought me over to Pooter’s side. I also say goodbye to my fave sub, Jonny Sparkplug. Just don’t think they need him this year. More crystal ball than crystal clear, to be honest: Batting order 1. EYJ. Left field (!) (best position he’s demonstrated) 2. Dex Center field 3. Cargo… Read more »
Oops, meant 5th infielder for Nelson. Rocks need to find the next long-term 1B, not just a year with Cuddyer at first. No-one in the minors better than Colvin, so give him a shot to be the guy for the next 5-6 years.
I agree!
My lineup:
Fowler CF
Helton 1B
Gonzalez LF
Tulowitzki SS
Cuddyer RF
Rosario C
Nelson 3B
LeMahieu 2B
DeLaRosa P
Chacin
Francis
Volstad
Pomeranz
Betancourt
Brothers
Lopez
Belisle
Octavino
Outman
Nicasio
Rosenbaum (DP reported that Rockies may be carrying 8 pitchers for home games and 7 for away games meaning one pitcher and one utility will be racking up frequent miles between Springs and Denver.)
Hernandez or Torrealba
Pacheco
EY
Colvin
Brignac
As a Rule 5 selection I think Rosenbaum would be unable to be shipped down to the Springs. If not on the ML roster he heads back to the Nats (or Philly, forget which).
Yes, that’s correct about the Rule 5. My side note about shuttling players just happened to be next to Rosenbaum’s name but it was not meant to say he’s the one shuttling. If my roster is what it is, Nicasio, Outman, Ottavino are candidates for the frequent bus rides. Or it might be Chatwood or Friedrich.
I “won” the lottery for the Brewers’ Opening Day vs. the Rockies on April Fool’s Day. Wondering if anyone will be at the game? Our tickets are along the foul line about two sections short of the HR fence.
Also have tickets for the USA-Mexico WBC game on March 8th? Anybody going to the game? And I will be at the Rox games from March 3rd to 10th home or away. Anyone in Phoenix area besides TJ, robba, edtheump?
RMH, did you intend to leave Ruttledge off of your roster? I’m good with your roster except that I have Ruttledge instead of Brignac. And I don’t have a clue who the starting pitchers are (the Rockies don’t either).
