Feeble Rox vs. Nats 8/20/2015

If we are looking for anything funny tonight, be prepared to see Ben Paulsen without his beard.  He says it was a shaving mishap. 🙂  Tonight we are seeing AA talented lineup; Matt McBride, Dan Descalso, and Dustin Garneau along with Yohan Flande are automatic outs in the bottom half of the lineup.  And a stranger in the five-hole.

RWO pic

Who wants to join me for some vodka at Coors tonight?  Not thrilled to be going to the game tonight except to buy some Blue Moon draft at half price (with my Fan Night Out package).

Rox can’t afford a win tonight. The two teams ahead of them in the standings are playing each other (PHL at MIA).

I haven’t been following the Rockies minor league players much this year but I’m sure more than one of you can answer my question. Was Kyle Parker a left-fielder in AAA? I’ve watched parts of the past two games and he’s misplayed (at least) one ball a game there. Doesn’t seem to be able to read the ball correctly. I presume he’s a good athlete since he played major college quarterback. And is he the only one of the seemingly… Read more »

Matt Holiday was a very highly touted high school QB as I recall, more highly recruited than a couple of guys that had good NFL careers. One was a Cincy QB but the name escapes me.

Don’t forget Todd Helton who was replaced by Peyton Manning when Helton got injured playing quarterback.

Seth Smith was Eli Manning’s backup.

Bill – I remember Parker’s days at Clemson and I believe he almost exclusively played RF.

Dustin Garneau MLB debut and he gets a double of Scherzer in his first AB. Nice. Very nice!

Me thinks Flande and Rusin want jobs next year.

And they are working hard to earn them.If they both somehow aren’t in the rotation next year they should be in the bull pen and ready to jump in as next man standing. The “crafty lefty” bromide strikes again.Going 7 or more really does change the bull pen dynamic even with our Rockies horror bull pen show.

A SP that goes 7 IP and allows 2 runs at Coors should win every time.

Hey girls (and guys), a couple of comments now that I have caught up on speed-watch 🙂 I count on you to keep me up on the minor-leaguers, and especially callups. (Maybe I missed it someplace.) Garneau Who? Nice story, decent debut, and it’s always interesting when somebody you never heard of shows up. Too bad for McKenry, which I guess is the reason for this. Is he out for the year? I like Ben Paulsen. Say what you like.… Read more »

Thanks for all the answers. I had forgotten about Holiday being a QB in HS. Helton and Smith (both who backed up Mannings) were always known as better baseball players. But I remember draft picks like Michael Vick and Russell Wilson who obviously were better FB players.

I just got in. Can the Rockies bullpen really hold on?

I think it was Carson Palmer that was rated below Matt in high school.

What a surprise. I was sure that the game was lost when Zimmerman got the call on that check swing with a 1-2 count. Right call, but how many times have the Rox been within a strike of winning before imploding? Then of course he walks after an 0-2 start. Next, I was convinced a bomb was about to drop when the catcher went to the mound before the final pitch. How many times have we seen that happen? Happy… Read more »

Was at the game tonight. Outstanding effort by Flande. Cargos catch was an amazing piece is all out defense in a totally meaningless game. And it happened 100′ in front of us. Fine fun debut for Garneau.

Cargo is showing the baseball world that he can still hit, he can still run, still has the big RF arm, and I think very importantly – after leaving the day before with a knee tweak – is back the next day playing. So he’s showing some durability as well.

I called Cargo a 2.5 too player back in May — at that time, he still had power and the arm, but the speed had eroded badly, he certainly wasn’t hitting for average, and his fielding numbers were bad. Amazing that he’s pulled it all back together after looking like he was well into a decline period — the only plausible explanation is that he was playing hurt (the knee?). Flande has been as effective as Rusin (although in fewer… Read more »

Agbayani, I think that you are right. As a starter or a reliever/swingman, it appears that Flande is likely to earn a job on the Rockies next year. Quite an outing, as was Rusin’s on Sunday. In a terrible season, we’re getting some good performances from guys that we didn’t really expect to be talking about — in addition to Flande and Rusin, I’m thinking about Paulsen. So, they constitute a few inexpensive pieces who are likely to be on… Read more »

A word of caution to everyone. One or two good performances by Rusin and Flande don’t mean a thing. Consistency, consistency, consistency along with throwing strikes is what we need.
