Escalona is a joke. I have no idea why he’s still on the roster.

Actually, the whole team is a joke right now.

Jared… at this point, does it matter if you’re late? You’ve built a great site, great guys participating, but when the team looks worse than a Yahoo contributor network annual edition, do we really mind if you’re a bit late? Heck no! We’re just glad you haven’t given up on the whole thing! lol

11-2 final. Brooms pushing them to the bus. Nice job, Rockies. Players are embarrassed (except Tulo, after all, he was taking a stand… with a rookie pitcher, Cargo and Cuddy gone and a losing streak on the line… yeah, right). The city is embarrassed. Walt is embarrassed. Cowboy is embarrassed, even if he won’t say so on Root. Maybe not embarrassed, maybe laughing his ass off. Even Jim Tracy is embarrassed, I’ll bet. However, Bill (Geivo) Geivette, Dan O’Dowd and… Read more »

I see in the post game recap Tulo was 1 for 21 against the Braves this year. I guess getting tossed was his way of avoiding being 1 for 24 or 25. I also don’t see any of our AAA stars becoming good MLB hitters over a full season. Nobody has a consistent approach and eventually they lose any kind of plate discipline. The wheels are completely off the bus.

Monday, tied game in 10th WW brings in Escalona. Game over. Today, 10-2 Braves in 8th. WW brings in Brothers to mop up. Does any of this make any sense? The annointed leader of your team begs the HP ump to toss him after striking out for the second time in 2nd inn., knowing that your team is already missing Cargo and Cuddyer. WW makes no effort to come out and protect his player prior to the player getting tossed.… Read more »

It’s the players, folks. My rating, A+ through F, for players on the current roster. Borrowing from John Sickels (minorleagueball dot com), I’ll set a B/B- as an average starter, a C/C- as an average reserve or bullpen pitcher. An above average starter/legit All Star would be an A/A-. I’ll also add a second grade for young players for what I see as their upside. See if you can argue that I’ve underrated guys. I don’t think so. Rosario: C+… Read more »

Sounds like a good time to start following a better team. I suspect that we follow Agbayani lead this team is pretty much beyond hope. I, of course do not follow his lead. I was a Cubs fan for a long time and maybe I am just a masochist, but I think I’ll stick with the Rockies. It would appear to me that a smaller market team as ours is has little hope and perhaps that is the way it… Read more »

Agbayani, is Kyle Parker really not a position prospect? If so, that’s really sad.

Julie, good point. I forgot about Kyle Parker. Looking at him again he hasn’t had a very impressive season at Tulsa, but he is still 13th in the Texas League in OPS (looks like hitting is down overall there), and he’s still 23. I guess he’d be rated as a B/B- type guy, with plenty of room to break out. Not trying to depress people, just trying to bring a little realism here to offset the Geivett comments about the… Read more »

Agbayani, how about Matthes and McBride? They seem to have a shot of being marginal major leaguers, which is better than a lot of the guys who are in our minor league system. When I look at the position players in Tulsa, it seems that Parker, Nina, and Rolling seem to be the only ones who would even be moved to CS next year. Everyone else looks like they need to stay put for another year. As to Tulsa pitchers,… Read more »

McBride is 28 and also hasn’t played in a while, so I guess he’s hurt. He’s pretty much moved into the “organizational depth” category. Matthes started strong in AAA but has tailed off lately. He’s 26. He may be strong enough against lefties to get a look — for some reason, we don’t seem able to develop competent righthanded hitting outfielders since Spilly — but I don’t think anyone expects him to be a major contributor. Tim Wheeler is more… Read more »

I was listening to Jack’n’Jerry last night, who are running out of happy talk for this season so they’ve turned to next. Jack was going on about what a great team they’ll have next season with Todd Helton at first … I think it was Ag who pointed out awhile back that Helton has not said anything about retiring. The only person saying this is Helton’s last year is Renck and he’s always wrong when he thinks he can read… Read more »

Agbayani, Geivett is no doubt, out of his mind and from what I can tell incompetent as well. I am not a fan of WW style of managing and the Rene would be a huge improvement. It not only takes some talent, which we already have a bit of, but it takes leadership which from watching does not seem to be the Rockies strong suite at this time. I am not sure who would want to take this team over… Read more »

I was reading an article on line and the following excerpt caught my eye: “As a fan you don’t have anything to worry about when a team is rebuilding;it’s when the team is ho-humming in directionless mediocrity for years at a time that the beads of sweat and frustration can rightfully manifest.” Any guess as to what team the article was written about? It could easily be directed at our lovable losers, but the article was about the other lovable… Read more »

Cisco, that sums it up perfectly. “Directionless mediocrity.” By the way, I forgot one other prospect type: Rutledge. I still believe in him, and I think he ultimately will solve the 2B issue for a few years. I guess he’d be a B rated prospect. The problem here is that position player wise, Rutledge is really the only guy who projects as a starting quality player right now in the whole organization. And that includes the guys who’ve been up… Read more »

Patrick Saunders had an interesting read on the DP Lunch Special at http://www.denverpost.com/lunchspecial/ci_23784098/rockies-need-fix-holes-roster-chance-compete-mdash It’s been a depressing month for the Rockies, no matter how Weiss, Monfort, DoD and Geivett try to spin it. But it’s still baseball and I have my Yankees who are least in the Wild Card picture and there is more hope for them now that Jeter and Granderson are back. Roxnsox has his Red Sox and it may be their magical year after last night’s comeback… Read more »

Just when we thought things couldn’t get any worse, a couple of prospects in Asheville were charged with rape:

Never heard of these guys. They’re 23 years old and still at Asheville, they’ll never be heard from again.
