FirstLook: Dodgers vs. Rockies, 6.3.15

After last night’s heartbreaker, we should remind ourselves of a couple things.

First of all, It’s a 9 inning game. Honestly, when David Hale gave up 4 relatively quick ones, I found something else to do for an hour. My bad. I was expecting the tent to fold, and it didn’t.

Second, it’s rare when a single play, such as the Guerrero grand salami, can be said to have made all the difference in a game. Bad inning from Betancourt, no doubt, but without the rally from Hundley and Barnes and a Tulo homer, it wouldn’t have mattered.

Third, in order for there to be a heartbreaking loss, you have to be in the contest at the end. The Rockies are showing signs of playing better on home turf. They put in a solid performance in the first game yesterday, and had an L hung on Greinke before his guys got him off the hook.

Priority for tonight – when the rain stops – is to shut Joc Pederson down. He is taking gigantic swings and when he connects, it goes a long way. There is one way sure to stop that, and Bettis throws hard enough to get his attention. Just a little off the chin, please. Seriously, they have to show him he doesn’t own the entire plate, and that means taking back the inside half.

Bolsinger’s ERA is a microscopic 1.15 in 5 starts. The offense did nothing with him the last time they faced him on May 17th – but it was a Tulo day off. Bettis is going to have to follow up his near-perfecto with something nearly as good, and hope for some run support.

1) nice pregame…agreed they are playing better and I almost said the dreaded “moral victory” after game 2 last night but I was too bummed. 2) Joc Pedersen down on a big swing. Check. 3) Nolan stabs one and the ESPN crew is gushing. Thank you. (Why is it not blacked out on ESPN?! I’ll take it. Always enjoy another view(s).

Baseball 101: backing up 3B, always stand in front of dugout steps and let the fence stop bad throws. Runners get free bases for letting ball into dugout

With Lyles gone for the year, you have to go with Jon Gray. I don’t think Rusin ‘s performance is sustainable for the rest of the year.

Think they will go with Rusin/Hale.If Gray stays solid probably see him after July 1.

Well, that’s pretty special. At least there is one winner on this team How many more are going to step up? (I know, Noland and others are winners, but that dinger was a statement)
