FirstLook: Rockies @ Reds, 5.27.15

Listening to George Frazier yesterday was a bit alarming. He was talking about the lack of starting pitching, a sputtering offense that is underperforming in a park traditionally known as a hitter’s paradise – and he was analyzing the Reds. Yes, they are as big if not slightly bigger mess than the Rockies right now.

This is the rubber game before an off day and heading to Philly., and it looks like the rain might miss Cincy this morning. Here’s one to watch: Nolan Arenado is heating up a bit, and has been sizzling in 15 day games – he’s batting .362 with 5 HR.

We’re back to the Kyle Kendrick experiment. His last three outings have all been 6+ innings, a good trend – but I’m not ready to award the “Innings Eater” badge just yet. On the scale of things, his road numbers are better. His ERA is two points lower, 5.91 vs. 7.85. His BB/9 rate is also a whole 2 lower away, 2.57 vs. 4.42. More importantly, his allowed SLG is much lower – .486 vs. .634. It’s XBH, not necessarily the HR ball, that has been hurting Kendrick.

The Reds are starting Tucker Barnhart behind the plate – he’s the guy who triggered that Bryan Price rant against media snooping earlier in the year. DatDudeBP, aka Brandon Phillips, is still day-to-day with a banged up toe – giving us another dose of Skip Schumaker. Todd Frazier is the big bat in this Reds lineup today, keep him under control and we have a chance.

Here we go again; bullpen comes in and blow up starting with Boone Logan walking Votto to load the bases for Todd Frazier’s game tying HR.

Eff you Boone Logan, you come in and issue two walks to the first two batters to force in a run. Bring on Gopherg and see if he serves up a GW homer.

RMH you would really not have liked what Tulo swung at earlier for strike 3

The medical team needs to come up with a diagnosis for Boone Logan and put him on the 60-day DL. He seems to walk somebody or run up a 3-ball count every time he appears.
