Coming-to after a decisive drubbing of San Diego Saturday night, the Colorado Rockies aim to take the weekend series versus the division rival Padres with a win Sunday afternoon at Coors Field in Denver. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 pm MDT. Colorado will send left-hander Jeff Francis (5-4, 5.44) to the hill against San Diego rookie Casey Kelly (1-0, 0.00), who makes his second start since an August 27 win over the Braves in his initial major-league appearance. Kelly held Atlanta scoreless over six innings, gave-up 3 hits, walked 2, and struck-out 4. Francis also pitched Monday, defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 5 inning, 3 hit, one walk performance. He struck-out 6.
Both teams are trying to salvage seasons that went south early, the Padres since June and the Rockies beginning with a road-trip that started in Los Angeles on August 6. Chris Denorfia will lead-off in right-field, and Logan Forsythe returns to San Diego manager Bud Black’s lineup at shortstop, hitting second. Jesus Guzman will be at 1st for Yonder Alonso, batting seventh. 1st-baseman Jordan Pacheco moves to clean-up for Rockies’ MFL Jim Tracy as Ramon Hernandez spells Wilin Rosario at catcher. Jonny Herrera is in for DJ LeMahieu at 2nd-base, hitting eighth.
Pleasant 85° temperatures are expected in the Mile High City under partly cloudy skies. Relative humidity will hold steady at 25% with variable winds out of the south at around 6 mph. Drew, George, Marc, Jenny and the Cowboy will have plenty of hi-jinx on TV for ROOT Sports. Jerry Schemmel and Jack Corrigan have the radio broadcast as usual on 850 am KOA.
