Game 2 vs. Phillies at Coors

Jordan Lyles takes his turn tonight against Kyle Kendrick.  The Phillies are using the same lineup as last night.  The Rockies’ bullpen has a 0.91 ERA (29.2 IP, 3 ER) since 4/9 which is the second lowest mark since that date in the NL.

No use having Dickerson up here if he isn’t going to play. They are bound and determined to shove Stubbs down our throats.

It all goes back to the weird decision to keep Cargo in LF at all times. They think Dickerson’s arm isn’t adequate to play CF or RF, so he’s a pure pinch hitter/Cargo backup. That means he’ll only play if Cargo sits.

Call me a sissy – but I like the new “catcher can’t block the plate” rule.

I also like the aggressive base running.

If that’s how they enforce the “can’t block the plate” rule, I don’t like it (even though I like the result!). Ruiz was keeping that left foot on the basepath, but he also needs to turn and make the tag so it wasn’t a pure, old-fashioned block.

Here’s why I like (if it’s consistently enforced like this) – 3rd base coaches are going to quickly figure out that Catchers are going to have to swipe tag, so they’ll be sending more guys. I think we’ll see more plates at HP.
