IN GAME CHAT
The next few games will either expose the Rox mismanagement greatly or buy them more time to cover up their own mistakes. What’s happened in the past is a done deal. So we have to deal with the cards we have in our hands. So it’s up to WW to maximize his hand and bet accordingly: Platoon properly in CF. Move Cuddyer to 1B for a week and see if it helps the team. Give DJ a short leash and… Read more »
Jackson Williams? RMH, didn’t even know who that was. But if he ever plays in the majors he better be the best defensive catcher of all time. Career MINOR LEAGUE .219 hitter. Remember Danny Ardoin, the Catchin’ Cajun? There’s a kind of Ardoin line even for the great defensive catchers – Danny finished as .206 MLB hitter and never even hit 500 plate appearances in his career.
I’m not saying your ideas are not good ones, but the Rox have played only two games so far, with 160 more to go. I’m doubtful they will change their well laid out plans quite so early. Doubtful anything will happen for at least 20 games or so, maybe more.
I’m just happy to see a Lefty CF in the line up against a Righty pitcher. Little things.
You’re right, Trip. I’m just saying don’t wait and wait too long like they did with Colvin last year. They held on to Colvin for a good two months, that’s 1/3 of the season. Just saying have a shorter leash everywhere.
DL update: Chatwood officially put on IR retroactive to March 29th and recalled Jordan Lyles from Springs. Chatwood threw a side session yesterday and did agility drills. Will make one more rehab start and plans to start on April 13th. That would be two starts he will have missed.
Rotation clarification: Thomas Harding reported that Kerosene will indeed pitch Thursday and Nicasio starts Friday’s home opener.
Good thoughts above…but…thoughts on Rosario being benched-or do we have any more info? I know its been a rough couple of games for him (understatement of the week there) but does this seem…..drastic? Everything I read had the company line of “He’s our #1 catcher”…
Sorry about getting Chat up late, but it is up now for those that want to chat it up during the game…i’m hitting the road in a few minutes for California, so post-game might be from the road 🙂 So far i’m really having fun watching this first inning!
One of the few disagreements I’ve had with Benny Agbayani – our favorite Hawaiian player and RWO member – is Justin Morneau. I really think this whole concussion syndrome thing is very real, and impacts certain people more than others. Morneau showed some glimmers of hope with Pirates late last year. I think he’ll take a big step forward this year and be a very serviceable offensive first baseman, and beyond serviceable defensively. We’ll spend all year figuring out CF… Read more »
sdcarp, I don’t doubt that Morneau’s concussion syndrome was real, and I don’t even think he was a terrible signing. I just think that even if he is now healthy enough to play a full season he’s at that point in his career where he isn’t a full time player. My main issue is with not finding a good rightfielder who could allow Cuddy to move to 1B in a rough platoon with Morneau
One of my biggest concerns at the end of last year was seeing who would replace Todd at first, given the glove that turned a lot of Hail Mary’s from third and short into outs. It’s a small sample size, but Morneau has looked great on throws in the dirt AND on the high reach while stepping back on Tulo’s throw in Game 2.
Yeah, Morneau has looked like another Helton scooping throws. I knew his reputation for that was excellent in Minnesota, but I was afraid that maybe age/injury had affected even that. And as others have noted, Tulo is moving better and seems to have turned back the clock in the field to his pre-injury days
