And I’m calling the same – Stalwart for Years – on David F. Dahl. (See Peyton F. Manning if you don’t get the allusion, and if not even then, use your imagination:)
Yency Almonte promoted to Hartford.
Corresponding move – German Marquez to ABQ.
We are ahead a by 8. Put the worst pitcher in. Germen. But WW is warming up Lyles instead. .Little League manager.
Was at the game tonight with an old buddy from North Carolina and very good Miami Herald beat writer Clark Spencer. Lovely evening at Coors. Perfect weather.Wow…..lots of Japanese media!!!! We were dangerously close to seeing Ichiro’s 3000th. I was pleasantly surprised that most of the crowd stayed to watch the AB and seemed to realize what was happening. Bravo for Coors. One takeaway I had (has nothing to do with Rockies) – Padres GM Preller is burning some bridges… Read more »
Stat Cast sucks. Here’s a link to Piazza’s 1997 HR at Coors. This ball landed 50 ft farther (out on concourse) than Stanton’s bleacher shot. I’m a physics guy. That’s how I pay the bills. Don’t give me “trajectory.” That doesn’t count.
What you can give me……1997 was pre humidor. I’ll listen to that argument.

Carp, is the Stat Cast thing something like this? “If a ball were hit at that same exit velocity and trajectory on a perfectly flat field with no wind or bleachers/stands to stop it, where would it land?” (And for Coors, add in “at that elevation, and with no wind”) If so, I get what they’re saying. But I also get what you’re hinting at: that’s not what most of us think of when we think of “longest home run!”… Read more »
Ag – you’re correct. It’s sort of a “in a vacuum” measurement.
I think Satnton’s ball was 117 MPH, 18 degree exit metrics. Pure (educated) speculation……Piazza’s exit angle was probably in the 22-25 degree range. Piazza hit moon-shots. “What if” both shots are “normalized” to 20-22 degrees? Point is…….WAY too many variables to make the claim longest HR in Coors history. It landed +/- 50 shorter than Piazza’s. That’s “real.”
Tapia to Albuquerque too. The “next wave” is in place and ready to start coming up no later than September (particularly since ABQ isn’t making the PCL playoffs).
My wife screams at me too go to game today. I gladly obliged for three reasons: 1) Ichiro 3000 hits 2) ace Jon Gray pitching 3) David Dahl continue his hit streak. Add the fact that a win will draw us closer to the post season chances and it’s not even mid August yet.
I love it when I hear all the pitchers are moving up to Albuquerque. Preparing bullpen for September.
RMH – I was very pleasantly impressed (as were my Marlins friends) at how cognizant the Coors crowd was of Ichiro’s quest.
Warning, warning, warning – I’m about to raise RMH’s blood pressure again! Regarding Ichiro, he signed a 1 YR, 2M dollar deal with the Marlins this year. In our infinite wisdom, we gave Parra 3 years, 27.5M So we could have had Ichiro chasing 3000 hits, packing Coors with fans, mentoring our young players, being our 4th OFer, with no commitment beyond this year, for 2M. Think about that. Take a deep breathe and really, really think about that for… Read more »
Stop fantasizing, Ichiro was not going to sign with the Rockies for any amount of money. He signed with the Marlins because he was already a Marlin and was happy there. I will agree that the Parra signing was not in the Rockies” best interest.
Hmmmm…..he was Mariner for 12 years and was OK with becoming a Yankee. He was a Yankee for 3 years and was OK with becoming a Marlin – for 2015. So after one year he fell in love with the Marlins and wouldn’t “take any amount of money” to go somewhere else? Not to a dream hitters Park? Not 4 hours closer to the West Coast and our largest Japanese population concentration. Makes sense to me!
Ichiro starting and Dahl batting 3rd.I have a chance to win the trifecta if Rockies win.
I was going to stay to the end but now I’m not so sure with McGee pitching.
I get the place and show parts but not the win part.
Damn, I should’ve gone to this one. Spent all day doing yard work. Carp, I’m with you on this one — a little more money and a promise to get those plate appearances that wound up going to Parra and I’m quite sure we would’ve been in the running for Ichiro. He had a horrible year last year (but check the BABIP! It’s right back up there where it was in his 30s this year), but it would’ve put some… Read more »
This past off-season when we were all throwing out potential names to fill our needs, someone mentioned Ichiro. Was it you Ag? (Honestly – I can’t remember who it was). In between all my rants on the Qualls and Motte signings (especially Qualls), I was sort of neutral on Parra. He probably got an inadvertent “pass” from me because I couldn’t (and still can’t) believe a major league team signed Chad Qualls. Oh well……agree with everyone. Ichiro is great, and… Read more »
I thought Parra was a good signing but I think he’s been terrible most of the year. His fielding, which was a strength, has been terrible. He misplayed a fly ball early in the game which gave the Fish two runs. Cargo probably would have had that. I only watched parts of the game so I didn’t hear the reason why Cargo who has a 17 game (?) hit streak didn’t play. I guess WW wanted to give him a… Read more »
Bill, you said everything that I was about to write. Especially the Hundley/Wolters day switch. And I was hoping Parra would hit foul ball off himself and go back on DL. And I like your nickname for WW – Buffoon.
Whoa…………did WW just do something cool?
David Dahl is getting his first off day. Of course Mr. Dahl has a hit in his first 12 games (17 games is the all-time major league record) AND nasty lefty Cole Hamels is pitching for the Rangers tonight. Well timed WW.
That’s why we have Buffoon managing the team. If I was Dahl, I would be proud to have that hitting streak including Cole Hamel. Don’t give the impression that he was babied through the hit streak. Besides, who’s better – Dahl or Parra? Doh
RHed Raburn is in Dahl’s place.
Moot point though with Cargo hurt. Parra will play anyway.
Buffoon at work again. Dahl or Parra as clean up hitter? Dahl hands down. Who is a better base runner? Dahl hands down. Who has better fielding metrics? Again Dahl hands down.
Oh not to mention who has a better approach left on left??? Dahl.
Whoa – Jurickson Profar playing 1B. When did that happen?
Tejas lineup is damn good.
Atta boy WW. Go out and give a milquetoast argument to a replay decision. That makes sense.
