Giants on at Coors; Back to Cali

The Colorado Rockies are swinging into week 4 of 2014 sporting a .500, 10-10 record.  They split 4 with the San Diego Padres, huddled under the Marine Layer, then headed home to take 2 of 3 from Philadelphia, including a 12-1 Fan Friday smack-down.  The week also featured a 3-game winning streak, besting all of those 2-game 2013 streaks that generated those 74 victories, and got 5 consecutive quality starts from the current version of the starting rotation.

They open-up a 3-game set with the hated and despised San Francisco Giants tonight, have a much-needed day-off on Thursday, and head to LA for 3 with the Dodgers on the weekend.  Left-hander Jorge De La Rosa (0-3, 7.58) gets his 5th start of the season, looking to build on last Wednesday’s 6-inning stint against the Padres, when he allowed 2 earned runs on 7 hits and struck-out 4.  “Play Ball” is 6:40 MDT at Coors Field in downtown Denver.  The Giants counter with righty Ryan Vogelsong (0-0, 5.40), in a battle of veterans having a rough time of it out-of-the-gate.  Vogelsong also pitched last Wednesday and also went 6, allowing 1 run on 4 hits in a 2-1 San Francisco triumph over Los Angeles.

Angel Pagan is back in the lead-off slot for Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy, who’s moved right-fielder Hunter Pence up into the 2-hole, and has his Brandon Barrage (Belt, Hicks, and Crawford) hitting 6-7-8. Corey Dickerson’s in center-field for Colorado, slotted 7th with 3rd baseman Nolan Arenado getting his first chance in the top part of the order, hitting 2nd behind Charlie Blackmon, who’ll handle right as Michael Cuddyer continues to nurse a tendon strain behind his right knee.  Carlos Gonzalez, who left Sunday’s game with knee tendonitis, is back in left, batting 3rd.

A cool, breezy night is scheduled down at the old ballyard.  Skies will clear as darkness falls, with temperatures in the low 60ºs at game time falling into the mid-50ºs as the game progresses.  The wind will be blowing straight-out at 6 to 9 mph.  RoOT Sports has the TV, and radio’s in English on KOA 850 am.  Play-by-play on KNRV 1150 is en Espanöl.

I missed most of the early part of the game as I was working until about 7 then watched the Avs. So I missed the fireworks. But any time you beat the Giants its a good day. DLR wasn’t great but 5 innings and one run is about the best he’s done all season. Funny how Walt let Nicasion go into the 6th yesterday but seemed to learn his lesson and took DLR out after 5. I must admit I’m… Read more »
