Great Day in Colorado!

It may not feel like it, but Colorado is 7-3 since the ASB after a four-game sweep of Atlanta behind great starting pitching and slugging.  After the sweep, David Dahl was told to fly to Baltimore tomorrow.  The Rockies are purchasing his contract and Brandon Barnes was seen hugging teammates saying good bye after the game.  It appears that Barnes will be DFA’ed to make room for our latest upcoming star.

Now that’s a real outfield – Blackmon, Dahl, and CarGo from left to right.  Ryan Raburn has been struggling at the plate other than the grand slam.  Barnes had been sporadically used for defense in late games.  So Dahl gets his shot to prove that he can hit and field.

I will continue to wear the Story jersey each game until he has a prolonged slump.  I’m putting my purple glasses back on.  Are you?  Jon Gray is top-of-rotation pitcher.  Tyler Anderson is (Agbayani’s words) Jeff Francis 2.0.  Thunderstory (my new nickname for him cuz he’s in top two or three in the NL for XBHs) has grown up in a hurry.  He’s already adjusted back to the pitchers.  And now what’s the latest trick for the opposing pitchers?  I’m not sure if there’s any.  NoDo continues to rake and D.J. LeMahieu proved that he was not a one-year flash in the pan.  There are more positive things to add here, but bottom line is the positives outnumber the negatives.  The biggest negative is bullpen obviously.

RWOers, welcome back and we shall start being chatty around here.  Of course, the last two weeks have come against patsies.  I hope they will carry the momentum into Baltimore and New York.  A 3-4 trip will be great and anything better is off the charts great.

Here’s a little nugget regarding Dahl and service time: “The timing of the promotion means that Dahl wouldn’t be able to earn enough service time to gain Super Two status if he stays on the MLB roster for the rest of the season, so if he isn’t demoted, the Rockies are on track to control Dahl through the 2022 season.” Nick Groke via MLBTradeRumors. All sorts of scenarios in play. I wouldn’t read too much into the Barnes DFA other… Read more »

Extremely short-term scenario is three games ahead using the DH. So Dahl and his supplier defense gets to run around in the OF while Raburn/Descalso likely DH. It also might give Cargo a day off his feet (mostly) as a DH.

One more note regarding 40 man, if the Rox do have a deal(s) cooking for Cargo/Blackmon (Blackmon for Trea Turner for example), that’s a straight 40 man for 40 man swap, So the Barnes DFA may have been required regardless.

I’m not saying the Dahl call up is a precursor to a trade. It ” should” be, but we gave the Monfort factor in play.

Anxious to see Dahl and also see how BP handles this start. Orioles have shown interest in him and this might me a final audition. I hope he has a quality start and shows his teammates he’s going to help them sneak into the wildcard picture, but I fear he’ll tank so that any trade rumors will evaporate completely. Hell, the guy can veto any trade so why not prove us doubters wrong about his mental makeup.

Let’s trade Big P for a bag of balls. Get a pitching prospect or a 1B prospect, period. He was a good SP for us for longer than I thought he would last. We are NOT gonna be in the WC hunt this year (or ever?) so let’s begin the auditions. The hell with service time and contracts…let’s see who can throw strikes at a better percentage than Chatwood (keep him but watch him closely). Our RS/RA is not horrible…pitching,… Read more »

Hmmmm……..coincidentally, Indians promote Clint Frazier and Bradley Zimmer from AA to AAA yesterday. Coming into the year, the Indians had 3 top OF Prospects, Tyler Naquin being the 3rd. Naquin made the big Club out of ST, and has done well. Keep in mind the Indians needs – C, OF with thump, RPing. We match perfectly and Frazier/Zimmer are perfect “backfill” for Dahl at AAA, and either (especially Frazier) can be ready for the Show next Spring. Also watch the… Read more »

A little info on Frazier from Paul Hoynes:

“Frazier earned the level bump by slashing .278/.357/.473 with 13 home runs, 25 doubles, 48 RBI, and 13 stolen bases in 88 games with Double-A Akron. The 21-year-old was drafted fifth overall in 2013 out of a high school in Georgia and has impressed at just about every turn. He was rated a top-50 prospect leading into the 2016 campaign by both MLB.com and Baseball America. Baseball Prospectus had him ranked 53rd.”

Now Bradley Zimmer (again – from Paul Hoynes): “Top outfield prospect Clint Frazier will join Frazier on the move. Zimmer, 23, was slashing .252/.370/.472 with 14 home runs, 53 RBI, 31 stolen bases, and 57 runs scored through 92 games this season at the Double-A level. He needs to improve his overall plate discipline, but those counting stats are eye-popping. Zimmer was the 21st overall pick in 2014 out of the University of San Francisco. He should make his major… Read more »

There’s a legitimate 3rd option with Cleveland as well. Tyler Naquin. He made the big Club out of ST and has posted a 321 BA, 380 OBP, 12HR performance so far in just over 200 ABs while being expertly platooned by Terry Francona ( a great Manager).

I would consider Naquin “IF” their 1B Prospect Bobby Bradley is also included.

Long story short………Rockies and Indians match up extremely well.

On my way to my first game ever at Camden Yards tonight. That is enough to be excited about but getting to see David Dahl possibly make his debut has me really pumped now. Best case scenario: Rox win, JDLR pitches well and stays in Baltimore when the Rox leave, Dahl gets the start and has a great game. Likely case with first game on road after a cross-country trip: Rox lose with at least 12 K’s, JDLR is pounded… Read more »

Love it! You lucked out on this one.

I guarantee that Dahl plays! You don’t call him up to sit, and there’s also the DH factor. Dahl in LF, Raburn DHing.

Take plenty of snacks. Take a nap beforehand. AL East team + JDLR = 4 hours minimum.

Great, a four hour game and it is now 100F, dropping to 97 at game time with rediculous humidity. Three hour drive home after!

So the Yankees get the Cubs #1 and #7 Prospects (and 2 other players – the very (instantly) usable Adam Warren being one) for Chapman. As I noted yesterday, this is a slam dunk for the Yankees. It’s not about money. In fact, just the opposite. This also shows, once again, how valuable RPers have become in today’s game. As “guessed” yesterday, the fact that the Nationals are not the “winners” shows that they weren’t willing to deal top Prospects.… Read more »
