He was born in Norfolk, VA…the same birthplace as the Mets’ DAVID WRIGHT, as well as brothers BJ and JUSTIN UPTON of the Braves.

CUDDYER shares his birthday with one HOF’er: MILLER HUGGINS.

HUGGINS played the game, and then managed the Yankees from 1918-1929…winning 3 championships.

Also celebrating birthdays today, San Fran’s BUSTER POSEY, and former Rockie ADAM MELH– USE.

CUDDYER was picked 9th overall in 1997’s 1st round by Minnesota, as a SS.

The 1st round of that 1997 draft claimed such names as JD DREW, JASON GRILLI, VERNON WELLS, and LANCE BERKMAN.

CUDDY’S 1st hit in the bigs came in his debut; 9/23/01.

He DH’ed for TOM KELLY’S Twins at home against Cleveland.

Michael worked a walk off of Tribe starter CHUCK FINLEY (200 career wins/5x all-star) in his first big league at bat…then struck out swinging…then doubled off of FINLEY leading off the bottom of the 7th.

The Twins finished second to the Indians in the AL Central in 2001.

CUDDYER played in less than 90 games from 2001-2003: although he WAS the Twin’s opening day THIRD BASEMAN in 2003, 4 days after his 24th birthday.

CUDDY’S best season, to date, was 2009.

CuddyHRHe finished 21st in the AL MVP voting after hitting .276/32/94 for the AL Central leading twins as a 30-year-old.

CUDDYER wore #5 as a Twin.

He was an AL all star selection in 2011 when he hit .298 with 13 homers and 43 RBI’s in the 1st half of the season.

The versatile CUDDYER has started games in LF, CF, RF, 1B, 2B, and 3B.

He also PITCHED a scoreless 9th inning @ Texas on 7/25/11 when his Twins’ lost 20-6 to the Rangers.

Michael was productive through May of last year, his first season with the Rockies.

Of his 48 hits in April/May of 2012, HALF went for extra bases.

52 of his 93 hits last season came at Coors Field.

CUDDY has 7 career grand slams; 2 came last year w/COL.

He has more hits, doubles, and RBI’s off of MARK BUEHRLE and is 23 for 51 off of JOHN DANKS:

2 lefties currently pitching for Toronto and the White Sox.

Most know that CUDDYER wears #3 as a Rockie to honor late Twin’s great, HOF’er, HARMON KILLEBREW.

Hi Guys! This has nothing to do with Cuddy however I wanted to post this somewhere and this is the last post. Do you read the purplerow.com? The reason I ask this now is they have a nice write up in Wednesday Rockpile: Rockies need to use 2013 as a learning opportunity. Are you the “Rox Girl” who just wrote the Sunday Rockpile for the last time? Anyhow, I hope you can come here regularly and comment if you wish. We always enjoy hearing the various viewpoints. I think most RWOers do go over to Purple Row to read the excellent articles written by the various contributors. But I don’t think any of us write comments, if any, because the threads often get really long. So we get a feeling if we… Read more »
