How About We Try This?

This is, without question, my (and by extension the RWO philosophy) what the Rockies should do NEXT year when we begin the inevitable fade after starting April and the beginning of May with a mostly positive start. This, of course, doesn’t work if we “crap the bed” early in 2016. Can you imagine the site’s positive blowup if Rox management followed the script of the Blue Jays? IMHO this article is the PERFECT pathway to ALL of us (RWOers and Rox fans in general) to re-engage in the sport we dearly love. Enjoy.

I’m starting to think that 100 losses will be the ONLY way they actually wake up and follow this type of script! Seems like the only time we make news anymore is when we have a cycle against us, the longest HR of the year against us or some crazy HBP video making the rounds…

I don’t think 100 losses will make any difference. Breaks my heart to say so. We have a lot of great kids (and vets) on this team that deserve better… they at least deserve the Toronto Blue Jays effort… but it will never happen with the man who is driving this bus. Reminds me of the old Firesign Theater LP “I Think We’re All Bozos on this Bus”. The biggest Bozos are the ones who paid for the Montfort’s ATM… Read more »

Sad but true. There is NOTHING that will shake up Dick Monfort enough to alter this sad, sad downward spiral. Except possibly a near-empty stadium. Errrr… No, probably not even that.

He would just tell the fans that we don’t deserve his team, or any. Whoa – sudden nightmarish thought – if expansion comes up, would Dick take his ball and go home? I mean, elsewhere?

I wish Helton would do a good ol’ northeastern plains boy thing on Dick and get him to sell…well, why not dream as big as the nightmare? 😮

Ed – if we can get to the point where we’re a 500 ball club at the end of July – we absolutely should do this.

We’re a long, long, long way from being a 500 ball club at the end of July.

So much for consistency for JG. Not an encouraging start. So my home stand prediction is holding up. Max 3 wins out of 9 games. The Quest for 100 is on!

RocketMan – I see it being very difficult to avoid 100. We still have this series, and we haven’t played the Pirates yet – so we’ve got 6 against them. We entered tonight 49-70. We need to win 14 more to get to 63 and avoid 100. Funny thought – during ST Ed the Ump let us know he was headed for Vegas and would place money on the Rox over/under – I believe it was 72 wins at the… Read more »

Do you mean we have no one at AAA/AA that is better than Germen[6.75]Betencourt[6.34],Frederich[5.69],and Kahnle[5.12]? If not than management is totally worthless. This team has fight but the blowpen is just crushing the spirit out of all of us.

Gary, I think that we’ll see Brooks Brown soon from AAA. He might be an upgrade over what we have. I wonder if the Rockies will bring up other relievers once the rosters expand, such as Brothers, just because the bullpen is so gassed at this point.

Jairo Diaz in his last 10 games: 15 IP, 20 K, 6 BB. Worth a September tryout. Miguel Castro in his last 8 (that is, since we traded for him): 9 IP, 6 K, 6 BB (he’ll fit right in with that ratio!), but 2.00 ERA. Why not? PCL season ends around Labor Day anyway. Simon Castro (“the other Castro”): 74 K, 20 BB in 57 IP overall. Has hit a rough patch in August, but definitely worth a try.… Read more »

Here’s a question for all-why does WW keep giving ABs to Barnes over Parker? Isn’t this the time to find out what they have in Parker? WW did the same last season when he let Parker rot on the bench the last few weeks of season.

Not sure I can stomach another season with WW.

Maybe they are trying to “showcase” Barnes and try to trade him in August. I suspect that Parker and McBride will get ABs in September. Hopefully CarGo will get a lot of rest days in September.

So, will the Mets trade Juan Uribe to the Pirates this week so he can play even more games against the Rox this year? Geez!

Absolutely stunning just how many times the Rox have rallied back in a game to tie or take a lead only to have the pitching staff immediately give it all back in the next half inning. Some say today is August 22nd. I disagree, it’s February 2nd.

That’s what I’ve been saying Bob.Crushing for some of the hitters who are doing there best.I take back every nice thing I’ve ever said about Rusin. It takes a really bad outing[like the last two nights] to actually make this bullpen seem necessary. The Mets look like ’27 Yankees against Rockies pitching.Or big leaguers playing in the little league WS.This is humiliating!

Flipped to this one after watching the worst “entertainment” in the world, preseason football. Wait a minute, they’re replying last night’s game on ROOT? No. They’re behind 11-3 in real time. In the 4th inning. Rusin’s line: 2.0 IP, 12 H, 11 R, 11 ER, 2 BB, 3 K. ERA now up where it belongs (he is a Rockies pitcher after all): 4.97. So much for the rotation savior. The Pitcher Whisperer is catching … how could this be? McKenry… Read more »

To put it even more perspective, the Mets are a bad offensive team. They’re near the bottom of the NL in runs scored. AND…….they’ve lost their big LHed bat, Lucas Duda, to a back injury and it doesn’t sound good. So they’re doing this to us Duda-less and Wright-less.

This upcoming ATL/PITT road trip could be ugly, ugly, ugly. I see no indication that we’ll get to 63 wins (ie – avoid 100 losses).

Actually we pitched pretty good on last trip to sea level[starters only] but couldn’t hit a lick. We’ve scored 18 runs in the last 2 games and haven’t even smelled a victory.Chances are we won’t score 18 runs this whole trip.

Small consolation after another terrible game, but Harrison Musgrave for New Britain pitched 5 2/3 and gave up just three hits and had 9 Ks. Not bad for a 23 year old who was promoted from A to AA not that long ago.

Another “put it in perspective” moment. Joel Herman has a nice article on his 10 most disappointing teams in 2015. It’s worth a read;

http://nypost.com/2015/08/22/forecasting-harsh-fallouts-from-10-most-disappointing-mlb-teams/

The Rockies didn’t make the list. Why? Because national writers and fans from around the country expect us to be bad. We’re not disappointing, we’re performing exactly as expected.

Another great article. It’s a hard to swallow read; http://www.denverpost.com/rockies/ci_28686281/jaded-reyes-would-welcome-trade?source=rss I appreciate Reyes’s honesty and bet NoDo and Cargo feel the same way. One of these days players and their Agents are going to wise-up and attempt to demand front loaded contracts instead of back loaded contracts. These back loaded contracts make declining veterans that still have a bit to offer worthless to the teams. Of course the corollary is that teams don’t want to front-load anything. It seems like… Read more »

Groke got the story he was hoping for. His story has been circulated, commented on and talked about on unlimited number of media outlets and the national talking head shows. Multiple shows. Good for him (yes sarcasm). Not sure what his intent was but I agree with some previous players now talking heads. If he wanted stir up stuff in the dugout he may have succeeded. MLBtv even did a segment on the DP article yesterday. Along with the Reyes… Read more »

Not o.k. with DFA’ing Betancourt. 39 IP, 3.32 FIP, K rate, BB rate, HR rate all o.k. Plus his stuff looks pretty much the same as ever to me, which is astounding for a post-TJ 40 year old comeback. (And carp, you’re right — release the guy who throws strikes, keep the guy who walks 6.61 per 9 in Kahnle … Kahnle has earned his bad ERA). A classic small sample driven awful season for Betty. Here’s the irony – I can see the Blue Jays biting on Betancourt. They’ve used Hawk very smartly and he’s acquitted himself well. That Osuna kid seems to have taken over the Closer role there, which has stabilized their Pen. But it’s still a relative weakness. If nothing else, Betty could help them in September when rosters expand.

Sweet Mother of Jesus – we’re smokin’ hot. Last 2 weeks, 2-11. Fortunately for us 9 of those were at Coors where we could assert our dominance and win 2. Now on to our friend

The conventional wisdom is that Weiss shouldn’t be fired because it’s not his fault that the Rockies stink. Perhaps. But it is his fault that guys keep trying to take extra bases when the situation doesn’t call for it. No idea if Walt ever says anything to the player who gets thrown out (this time, and not for the first time, Blackmon) or to the team. But if he’s not then he should be fired and if he is then… Read more »

Bill – I call this an “institutional” problem. Base running fundamentals should be taught from the time the player is drafted and sent to short summer league through AAA, relentlessly. Blackmon is a product of the Rockies. He came up through the “institution.” So that doesn’t say much for us. DJ seems to have his fair share of base running brain farts as well, but he (mostly) came up through the Cubs system. Dexter Fowler never figured out how to… Read more »

I think Walt addressed this probably pretty accurately. Guys are making bone head decisions because they are pressing. Really pressing to make something happen. Here is my question. In some of those cases the decision would come from Stu. Are they disregarding Stu and making their own decisions? If so, Walt should be all over them.

Dexter Fowler annoyed the hell out of us – particularly our long lost friend egossage. While he never became a good base stealer, he was a damn good base RUNNER in general, and I don’t remember him giving us the kind of baserunning gaffes that are commonplace this year. Is it possible they DFA’d Betancourt because they think he will attract attention from a contender, maybe resulting in a low level prospect while giving Betty a chance to pitch in… Read more »

Dexter was great 1st to 3rd, or stretching long singles into doubles. But my point is that even with his speed – he never became a base stealing threat because he couldn’t read pitchers. Seems to me like some intense video study on a regular basis could have helped him.
