One of my favorite Rockies ever, and not because of his glove, Seth Smith is making a dent in the media with his play in the last two Oakland vs Detroit playoff games. He is hitting .500 (4 for 8) with a center cut, center field HR in today’s meeting that is being called, “Biggest at-bat of the day” by fellow A’s teammate Josh Reddick. He is also being hailed by Brandon Moss, another teammate that had an HR today, as having, “(the) biggest at-bats of the series so far.”
Reddick even went as far as to allude that they might have won game one with Smith in the lineup when he said,
He doesn’t start Game 1, and it kind of makes you wonder what he could’ve done with that start.
It is good to see someone mostly liked on the Rockies team do well. Sadly, the same can’t be said for Barmes who has played tag at short with Mercer. At least one thing is consistent with the Pirates: Hurdle making the call’s from the dugout. Gotta love seeing that!
Wouldn’t it be nice to see some MVP love for Seth if they take this series? Needs one or two more key hits to do it though. Personally I feel that the fans at PNC should get the MVP in the Pirates series – WOW, what an amazing crowd!!!
Many ex ROX rocking the playoffs.M.Halliday with big 2 run HR.,J.Grilli with big save for Bucs, and J.Uribe with the HUGE walk off to put the frickin’Dodgers in the league championship.Seth, whom I was glad to see go,had a pretty mediocre season but certainly came up big in this game.
good call Gary…i was thinking of Seth because i just finished reading that article about him, but pointed out the others to my son as we watched the other games…
Seth had a bad season and then had Lasik touch-up corrective surgery that helped him a lot he said…
Let’s not forget potential Rockie Evan Longoria, who you may recall was available but not drafted by the best GM in baseball, because who needs Longoria when we have can’t miss prospect Ian Stewart.
yeah, i tell anyone who will listen, anytime Evan’s name comes up, that we seriously dropped the ball on that…We have the great Garrett Atkins on the field and Ian Stewart in the wings, why in the world would we want Longoria??? Unbelievable when a team drafts for position and not best player. So you “think” you are deep at a position, but the player is obviously the best pick – then get him and use him as trade bait!!!… Read more »
And the “best in baseball”GM continues to be paid-kinda like the a-holes in Congress. On our site I’ll bet DOD might poll lower than Congress.
Bummer it all came down to Seth and he popped out…he did have the reputation for being clutch late in games…too bad – i wanted an A’s/Pirates World Series…looks like i’ll be getting a Dodgers/Red Sox one instead…
I’m predicting cards – bosox world series
