If we can’t beat ’em, annoy ’em

Jon Gray and Kyle Parker both look liked they belonged.

Gray was not dazzling last night but showed some of the bat-missing stuff we’d been hearing about. He was lifted early not for horrible Butleresque control, but simply because his spot in the lineup came around and we needed some … ok, it wasn’t that great of a reason, but his night was scheduled to be short anyway. Average 95.2, and his velocity was starting to tail off by pitch 77. DJ error and a long 1st inning didn’t help the cause.

Parker golfed a low outside ball demonstrating significant oppo alley power, a promising sign. As RWOers were calling for, it looks like he is going to get the right-handed reps at 1B and the rest of the time in LF. With Rosario’s trade value proven at ZERO (they still might try pushing him through waivers just to clear up a 40-man slot for some ML body), it’s now up to Parker to take the job.

Bullpen disaster again, nothing new, even Friedrich showing signs of fatigue. It is what it is.

If Nelson Cruz keeps muscling up, we’re going to need a ton of offense today. Rusin usually gets lots of run support but is also prone to big knockout blow from the opposition’s biggest hitter.

Second game in a row that the AL pitcher has a two-out RBI hit. AL pitchers????? Come on, it should be 1-2-3 strikes and be in the dugout.

Coming into the series Seattle pitchers were 0 for 54 with zero RBI’s.Rockies make AL hurlers look like Babe Ruth circa Boston Red Sox years.

Cargo career BA – 290 (he’s now up to 281 this year) career OBP – 350 (he’s up to 340 this year) Most HR’s in a year – 34 in 2010, 26 in 2011 and 2013 (he’s now at 21 this year) Most RBI’s in a year – 117 in 2010, 92 in 2011, 85 in 2012 (he’s now at 56) I’m very hesitant to project Cargo due to injuries – but if I step out onto that slippery slope… Read more »

It official! The Axe Man is broken. I like the Ax and want him to do well but he can’t get people out right now!

Unfortunately – the Ax has really been broken for several years. The Rox seemed to do really well with the reclamation project in the beginning – but he’s just regressing back to his statistical norm since 2013.

Q. You know who Taijuan Walker looks like? A. Jon Gray. I mean, not facially obviously. But similar build, similar motion, similar stuff. Q. And how long can it take an ace type to emerge? A. A while. Walker got a very promising cup of coffee last September. Then ERA by month this year: 6.86 5.74 2.36 4.95 (July, which ended for him with a 1-hit, 11 K outing) And today, other than Cargo, I take it he looked pretty… Read more »

Walker has been a prodigy for a while. He also had a couple of injury scares. The Mariners have done a nice job with him. Your 100% correct – patience is a virtue.

has Jeff Huson always had that massive vein on his neck??? That thing post-game was bigger than McH’s walkoff smash…

Whoah, Jared, what walk off smash? (Checks MLB.com). Hey, we won this one?? Yeah! We won this one!! So distracted by our griping that I didn’t bother to check after Axford apparently blew it for good!

Did anyone watching at home pay close attention to the Beimel balk/pickoff play Tuesday night? I was at the game, and it sure looked to me like Beimel started going to the plate before he threw McHenry out at first. I cannot find the replay on MLB.com.
The only thing I can figure out is that he somehow leaned his body to the plate without moving his leg. But it sure looked like a balk to me.

Hi Miketober – welcome back; I was at the game but I was pissed that I left the game after Seattle added runs after 5-4 score. Saw that on tv in the bar; I was even more pissed when McKenry didn’t even move back to the bag so I never thought to check Beimel’s move. I believe I still have the game on DVR so I can check it out now that you mentioned Beimel’s balking move.

Didn’t watch but listened to most of the game today. Some of us have to work. Always glad when the Rockies win but the Rockies seem to whiff when it comes to trading their players. A month ago Axford had some value. Today not much at all. I’m not sure Cargo can slip through waivers but he would (should) bring value. I didn’t see much of Gray’s debut but it seemed that he pitched well after the first. And as… Read more »
