It all comes down to this…or does it?

I was reading the article by Patrick Saunders in the DP earlier (he basically says the next 3 series against SF, AZ and @SF will determine the season) and it got me thinking….what results would I be happy with?

For the sake of argument I’m not putting tonight’s game against the Cubs in this  discussion although a win tonight would help us come home on a positive note.

Without doing any research (why should facts stand in the way of a good story, right?) as far as pitching matchups, etc, I’d be happy going 5-5.  Taking 2 from SF and 2 from AZ in LoDo then just not getting swept in SF. Now as I write this, I’d be THRILLED with 5-5 as these are the stretches that in the past have made us all start looking forward to football training camps.

Lots of factors, mainly roster moves or no roster moves, so that will be worth watching of course.

Curious how my fellow RWOers think….

I think this is a very important stretch for the Rox if the Rox hopes are to win the division. Have to be able to beat SF and AZ it looks like this year to win the division. You really have to be able to beat them at home too. Need to play well over these next 10 games. Now if your hopes are to just win 75-80 games then these next 10 games don’t mean that much.

The sad thing is the Rockies are ok with winning 75-80 games every year.

Totally disagree that anyone in the organization is “OK” with that. Maybe they don’t make the moves you wish they would, but that can’t be translated directly into not caring.

No Division Titles in 20 years and only 3 playoff appearances I think translates into not caring and being ok with mediocre. At least it does for me. I’m sure the players would like to win but ownership I think could care less. They keep drawing 2 million plus fans every year to the stadium. Why would they care?

Hopefully I’m wrong with my prediction on Monday and we can win this series!

Oh, and only 7 winning seasons out of 19 tells me ownership isn’t trying too hard to put a winning team on the field.

I think if you asked the Monforts if they would take a WS championship if it meant being in the red $1 million on the season they would say no. For them, profitability means everything.

Always fun to dream, and I think a good dream would be 5-5 in next 10. Fun to at least be able to talk about though! WE aren’t out of it yet! And there is so much potential.

They have GOT to show they can beat the Giants at least half the time or close to it (as you say above, TJ, 3 out of 7?). The Diamondbacks don’t worry me as much overall, but of course you want to make hay at home against the division. Importance of this stretch: 7 out of 10 (stars, not games! 70 percent winning would be a dream 😉

“Determine the season” means what? Win the division? Make the palyoffs as a wild card? I think right now the Giants have a pretty good record against the NL West as a whole. To make things a little harder on the Rockies, their normally hard to get to starters that have been struggling are now getting back to their old selves. TJ, don’t bother doing any research on the matchups. You won’t like the odds once you see who is… Read more »

Love the odds against Cain, Timmy, and Zito. If we are to say that we aren’t rolling over to our west rivals we have to set the bar high. Win three of four against v the giants. A teams record against divisional rivals determines how you will finish in the standings. We beat padres six times and were ahead of them by five games. We beat dodgers two of three we’re ahead of them. Almost even with Arizona and were… Read more »

I agree they having hitting and fielding. Pitching is something open for debate. The one thing missing for me is consistency. They seem to be missing that in a big way right now.

120 to go after tonight’s game. 110 after Saunders’ stretch of 10.

I guess Saunders means that if the Rockies go 1-9 or 2-8 against competitive teams, they’ll probably start looking at offers for guys like Betancourt (as well they should).

I would say until you’re 8 or 10 games out you’re still in it. I mean, as shitty as we’ve played we’re 2 games out!!! If we somehow turn in a meager 5-6 game winning streak (remember we an 8 game streak just 1 month ago) then we’re right back up top. We’re in this crazy spiral of not winning 2 games in a row for almost a month!! But within that, I think the worst losing streak was only… Read more »

I guess it’s all in how you want to spin things.

1) you could say we just lost out 4th series in a row.
2) you could say we went 4-8
3) you could say we went 2-6

I agree prog. We ARE squarely mediocre with little consistency. Strictly my opinion, but I think there is a very real concern for being 2-8 very soon. Probably worse.
